Name: #Alive (7.5/10) - A zombie apocalypse in modern South Korea

A few years ago I saw a Korean zombie movie called Train to Busan and it was one of the coolest zombie films I have ever seen. The second part of that movie was released but it received crappy reviews all over the net so I decided to skip it. But it turns out there was another Korean zombie film that was recently released and just by looking at the poster we can see it looks cool and modern.

The story in #Alive is about a Korean guy who spends his time playing videogames and producing vlogs for his online followers. One day, he goes to his computer as usual and begins to play and chat with his friends but after a few seconds one of them urges him to check the news and when he does that, he simply cannot believe what he is watching.

The whole country is going crazy with people attacking each other and when he goes to his balcony and looks down on the street, everyone is crazy and acting like zombies. He realizes he is completely trapped in his apartment with nowhere safe to go and decides to isolate himself just like most people did when they were quarantined in real life due to covid.

As the days pass, the food problem begins to get bigger and bigger because he has no safe way to get new food, and contact with other healthy people has been non-existent. Both the streets and the hall outside his apartment have zombies and he naturally begins to lose hope.

The film has several moments where something good happens just at the right time to avoid a catastrophe and this is how the second most important character is introduced. I don't understand how can this first contact wasn't established before. Both of them have been trapped for several days in their apartments and it was just when a very dramatic decision was taking place that the first contact happened. It also had a jumpscare that anybody will be able to see it coming.

There aren't big twists or any surprise whatsoever. The interesting aspect of this film is how the main character uses modern technology to facilitate his survival in such difficult circumstances. The film also tries to be a bit funny making this character somewhat dumb when interacting with the girl for the first time.

This was a fun zombie film, it wasn't hardcore although some of the zombies had well accomplished and scary looks. The movie doesn't feel scary or too intense and I think this is because the goal was just to produce a fun film and not a traumatic one that can cause nightmares. I recommend it if you are looking for a fun action movie or if you just simply enjoy a good zombie flick.
