What an enjoyable movie this was! It has been a while since I last saw a movie that was as entertaining as this one. The movie begins hinting it will be about a murder mystery but things aren't quite like that. We have a normal wealthy family having dinner and celebrating the engagement of the daughter with her fiance when suddenly someone knocks on the door, an inspector.

Once he enters the family's house, he will slowly but surely begin to question each one of the 5 individuals present in the house, with the security and knowledge that only a good inspector can naturally have.

The plot seems like something simple at the beginning, but it can actually become much more complex depending on what interpretation you prefer. What I recommend from the beginning is to pay a lot of attention to the inspector, he is the most intriguing character

The setting is pretty to look at, the cinematography was well accomplished, it had also good light and music. Figuring out where the plot is going will be hard at the beginning, but eventually, it becomes somewhat easier to see what's coming.

A big part of the story can be considered a critic of the enormous difference in lifestyle between wealthy people and those that live in poverty or near poverty. The performances were great for the most part, the character I liked the least was the mother while the one I enjoyed the most was the inspector.

If you enjoy mystery/thrillers you should certainly check An Inspector Calls as soon as possible. It is a dialogue-driven movie with more than half the time being spent in the family's dining room, but it will keep you interested and entertained. The story is compact with well written.

The best

  • Very enjoyable movie!
  • It has a sort of twist that will make a lot of people question everything they just watched, and then another important change comes.

The worst

  • There is a lot of dialogue about the differences in social classes, and I guess the original script/play was written by a marxist which can be annoying for some people due to the general failure of that genocidal ideology.
