If you enjoyed the movie Ex Machina, then make sure to watch this film because the setting is very similar, the plot is very different and the final result is just as enjoyable. One thing Ex Machina had that this movie lacks is the intriguing dialogues between the 3 characters, but Archive is still one hell of a ride!

The story is about a single man who is working on his robot prototypes in a very remote place, far away from any civilization but very technologically advanced nonetheless. This place is so remote, that in order to reach it by car he needs to activate a very modern-looking bridge that connects his giant house/laboratory with the road.

At the beginning of the film, we see he has 2 boxy looking robots. One of them is able to speak like a human being while the other reminded me of R2D2 because it only communicated with sounds, and somehow the man was able to understand it. However, he is not just creating cool looking robots but rather something much more profound.

Besides the already mentioned Ex Machina, this film could also be compared to the film I am Mother and to several Black Mirror episodes that always explore intriguing plots with advanced technology and good twists at some point in the story.

As we can see in the poster, there is also a robot that's not boxy at all but rather quite human-looking. This is the third prototype the guy is working on and

The movie explores an important topic that will become more and more common as AI gets better and better and it consists of the emotions that an AI might feel once it becomes self-aware. I would explain why the movie is called Archive but it would be difficult to not spoil a part of the plot that even though it is not the big twist, it would be better to discover it watching the film.

If you enjoy scifi and drama, then make yourself a favor and take the time to watch this film, especially if you already watched Ex Machina and enjoyed it. This one isn't as good but it is easily well worth the watch.

The best

  • Good acting.
  • Good CGI and scenery.
  • It has good emotional moments involving robots. Which isn't easy to accomplish.

The worst

  • It is slow at times which might cause some viewers to become bored.
  • Other similar stories have already been produced but I still think this film was worth producing.
