Dark is a masterpiece. I have mentioned this series several times in previous posts but I don't think I have ever written about it until now. The story is about 4 main families intertwined through time in a little German town. Things start to get strange when 2 young boys suddenly disappear and later on we will learn a similar tragedy that happened several decades in the past.
The disappearance of the youngest boy, Mikkel, will trigger a series of events that will be mind-blowing for the overwhelming majority of the viewers. The circumstances of his disappearance were that he was in the woods, with his older sister, older brother, and some of their friends. They were visiting the caves, something scared them, they started to run and the kid got lost.
What happened was that, in that cave, there was a portal for time travel. When the kid wakes up, he is now in the past. With no idea how he got there. People in the present begin to search for him, but he no longer is present in this time, or perhaps he is?...

That is just the beginning of the series of events. The main character, however, isn't Mikkel but Jonas. The importance of the different characters in Dark is well balanced but considering Jonas the main one would be fair in my opinion. In Dark, the past is caused by future decisions in an unending loop. Discoveries are only possible because people from the future share information with people from the past, creating all sorts of crazy paradoxes. One particular character is the result of a similar type of paradox from the film Predestination.
There are a lot of family tragedies and once a character discovers the possibility of time travel, they believe it is now possible to fix things only to realize they are just pawns in a much larger play perpetuating itself in time with tremendous global consequences. The amounts of twists in Dark is very high, and they are always unexpected and perfectly written. The biggest twist was, in my opinion, the one at the end of season 2, where the show adds a new massive layer of complexity that didn't see coming in the least! Season 3 will, of course, has massive twists but I was already expecting crazy stuff and they certainly delivered.
Dark is one of the shows I have enjoyed the most from recent years, it is an absolute masterpiece from Netflix and I believe it will become a classic of the genre. It would be impossible for the viewer to not find himself/herself surprised when watching this show, the characters, timelines, and MUCH more are intertwined in a way I have never seen before in any other time travel fiction. Dark is a must-watch for most people but especially for those who enjoy the scifi and thriller genres. It was a fantastic ride and the ending was very satisfactory. If you haven't seen this show, do yourself a favor and go watch it.

The best
- The best time travel fiction I have ever seen. I believe it is fair to consider Dark a masterpiece.
- Smartly writing, a complex plot that was surely very hard to design.
- It has good twists after twists until the very end.
The worst
- It would have been a perfect 10/10 if I have felt a strong emotional impact throughout the series. The ending was a bit emotional but such a complex story involving time traveling and more... had the potential to pull off a massive emotional involvement from the viewers. It was a very intriguing and entertaining ride but not very emotional.
