It does so in a very relaxed way because this is a comedy-action film and not really a serious production, but the movie does provide a lot of fun and entertainment and it ended up being a great experience for me.

The movie is about a character named Guy, he is a nonplayable character (NPC) in a virtual world where thousands of people play a videogame called Free City. Guy is the type of character that always has his car stolen in games like GTA or Cyberpunk. These are characters who are there simply to make everything feel more real and be more entertaining for the real players.
The big difference between the NPCs in Free City and those in real-life videogames, is that in Free City, the game has advanced AI code that could allow one of those characters to evolve and become very human-like. That's what happened with Guy.
In Free City, the NPCs have their own boring life, where they always do the same, dress the same, and pretty much have the same day over and over again, while all sort of craziness is happening around them. These characters are aware that they are just normal people and those who wear sunglasses are something like superheroes to them. The sunglasses is what differentiates NPCs from real players in this game.
Guy works in the bank, and something that was fun to watch is that pretty much every day the bank is robbed and all the people who work there are so used to this that they simply continue to talk as normal while laying on the ground to avoid getting shot. The reason why the bank is being constantly robbed is that there is a mission for the real players that require them to rob the bank, so robberies are happening over and over and over again, while all the NPCs in the bank are used to this.
Since the beginning of the film, we will learn about a real player who is trying to find some information in the game that's extremely important for her. The information that she is looking for will be important for the story later on but I believe the most intriguing and entertaining part of the plot is the change in Guy's mind.
One day, while walking in the street with his friend who also works in the bank as a security guard, he finds a woman and is immediately impressed by her. This woman is a real player and something happens during that encounter that activates a part of his code and his regular behavior begins to change. He basically begins to wake up and become a free person.
Shortly after, he manages to get a sunglass and once he wears this item he suddenly sees a bunch of information about his world that he didn't see before. He is still not aware that this is a videogame but he can now see this world as the real players see it. He then becomes a rogue NPC but instead of causing chaos like the real players he tries to keep everything in order and his goal is to be a good guy.

Guy will get involved in all of this, and due to his unique nature, he will be able to do something inside the game that will have repercussions in the real world. The movie has a lot of funny moments throughout the entire story, and the action scenes were really cool as well. There will even be a bit of romance towards the end.
This movie touches on a very deep topic that is the creation of artificial life, or in other words, the creation of a human mind inside a digital environment. This is a possibility that could become a reality in the future once AI's development reaches a very advanced state. Once this happens, we will have to ponder about the rights of these new beings, because they will be basically digital humans. This possibility is related to the technological singularity, which is a hypothetical event in the future where our technological innovations have such a rapid rate of improvement that it becomes impossible to predict what happens after, this is a rate of improvement that could only be achieved by AIs getting better and better at an exponential rate.
Another topic that is related to this film is the simulation theory, which basically consists of the possibility of our entire reality being a simulation and not a "real" reality. There are many explanations why this could be the case but in short words, it can be said that videogame graphics are getting better and better with photorealistic graphics, that AI's development is constantly improving rapidly, and that if we could do it right now, we will surely love to run simulations with human-like AIs and see how they behave, study them and even learn from them. If we could simulate ancient civilizations with human-like AIs we would do it, so, maybe we are a simulation and some advanced race is studying us, maybe they could even be advanced humans studying ancient humans or something like that.
Those are deep topics related to this film, and some films I could recommend about them are The Matrix trilogy obviously, The Thirteenth Floor, and some episodes of Black Mirror such as San Junipero.

The director of the film is Shawn Levy who is known for having worked in the series Stranger Things and he also directed the movies Night at the Museum as well as The Internship.
The writer and creator of the story was Matt Lieberman. The only movies written by this person that can be considered very successful and important are The Christmas Chronicles Part 1 and 2. He worked in a couple of animated productions as well, but without a doubt, the best story he has written is that of Free Guy.
Zak Penn worked in the screenplay alongside Matt. He has more experience as a writer and some of the best-known production where he has previously worked are The Avengers, The Incredible Hulk, X-Men: The Last Stand, and Ready Player One.

Taika Waititi plays a secondary role, he is the owner of the company that created the videogame and he is a very eccentric and explosive character. Waititi is known for being a very creative mind, he has worked as a director, writer, and actor, he was the creator of the great film Jojo Rabbit and he recently acted in the series What We Do in the Shadows and in the film The Suicide Squad.

Ryan Reynolds gave a great performance as an NPC who is suddenly waking up and becoming a free mind. He uses his charisma to turn what would usually be considered a boring character into a fun and likable one and his performance do make the film a much more fun experience to watch.
Taika Waititi, on the other hand, was too extreme and exaggerated with his role. His personality wasn't believable and it was hard to understand how someone like him could have so much power inside a big company. His character wasn't strategic and was actually silly and awkward.
The rest of the cast did an acceptable job but their performances felt very generic for the most part with little to mention about them. The entire film is carried by Reynold's performance and his process of breaking the coded chains that prevented him from being free. Everything else is secondary.

The film was a very fun and entertaining experience. It is a movie that will be enjoyed mostly by gamers and in that sense, it felt a bit similar to Ready Player One, because only gamers are going to appreciate some of the subtleties this film provides.
It is a feel-good movie that approaches a topic that can be very deep and can even belong in the philosophical realm, but it does so with the goal of providing some light fun for the viewer and succeed at that tremendously.
I definitely recommend this film to most people, it is a fun comedy, it also has some cool action scenes, I am sure most people will end up enjoy watching it.

La película fue una experiencia muy divertida y entretenida. Es una película que los jugadores de juegos disfrutarán principalmente y, en ese sentido, se sintió un poco similar a Ready Player One, porque solo los jugadores apreciarán algunas de las sutilezas que ofrece esta película.
Es una película para sentirse bien que aborda un tema que puede ser muy profundo e incluso pertenecer al ámbito filosófico, pero lo hace con el objetivo de proporcionar un poco de diversión al espectador y sin duda logra su objetivo.
Definitivamente recomiendo esta película a la mayoría de la gente, es una comedia divertida, también tiene algunas escenas de acción geniales, y estoy seguro de que la mayoría de la gente terminará disfrutando viéndola.
