Koreans really love to produce zombie stories, I have watched a couple of movies and series of Korean zombies but my favorite is still Train to Busan, which I consider one of the best zombie films of recent times.
I am not sure if a season 3 for Kingdom is going to be released. The story still has potential for more exploration and I still need to watch the special episode to see how it relates to the series. I believe this show should have at least another season but that depends on the story and ending of the special episode.

The series is about the tumbling and tragedy of a medieval kingdom caused by a horrific zombie apocalypse that becomes unstoppable. The causes of the zombie condition are revealed but there are deeper origins that will probably be explained in the next season or in the special episode Ashin of the North.
The zombie condition gets transferred in a typical way, if a person gets bitten by a zombie he becomes one, but there are also other ways to create a zombie in this series that I prefer not to say because it could be considered a spoiler. The fact is, we will learn how the first zombie came to be, and the method used for this transformation.
The series also has a lot of political/family drama involving the main character which is the heir Prince. His father has a new wife and they are having a baby together. That new wife is a member of a powerful political clan that wants to take over the kingdom and is willing to do anything it takes to succeed. We basically have 2 plots in 1 series, the zombie plot, and the political plot.
Season 1 ended with a huge cliffhanger, I believe most viewers were expecting to see a great battle taking place but the season ended right before this epic battle. Therefore, season 2 begins in a very intense way with tons of people dying and a bunch of zombies causing havoc.

Por lo tanto, la temporada 2 comienza de una manera muy intensa con toneladas de personas muriendo y un montón de zombis causando estragos.

Slowly but surely, this Prince will become more and more surrounded by competent people who are able of not only fighting the zombies but ultimately will also help him restoring general order in the kingdom, however, there are always twists and surprises in this story so it will be almost impossible for any viewer to figure out what the next events are going to be.
This season will provide an ending to all the political conspiracy but not a final solution to the zombie problem, which shouldn't be a surprise since there is a special episode released after this season and most people are expecting a season 3.
The series is entertaining mainly because it has the typical zombie apocalypse happening in original circumstances such as a medieval kingdom. All the zombie stories I remember watching happen in the modern world, so having medieval settings instead was an important change that gives room to even more drama and tragedy.
The medieval customs can get tiresome after a while but I guess this is necessary to make the medieval circumstances more real and believable. Season 2's ending, introduced a massive new twist along with a new character whose story will be explored in the special episode I will be watching soon. The zombie problem might even end up getting bigger than ever before.

Unlike season 1, season 2 has 2 directors working on the show. Seong-hun Kim kept working in this series after being the only director in season 1. This is a director known for the films Teo-neol and A Hard Day. His next production is called Kidnapped but it doesn't yet have a release date.
The other director is In-je Park. He has only 2 previous productions called The Mayor and Moby Dick. Kingdom is the first time this person works as a director since 2016, so he isn't very active in the industry.
The writer is the same one as the previous season, Eun-hee Kim. This person is a very prominent writer and has had an extensive career in the entertainment industry. Some of the previous productions are the series The Queen's Classroom, Signal and Three Days.

Another very important character is played by Bae Doona. I knew this character will end up being important since the first time I watched her because I immediately recognized her from the series Sense8 and I figured she would only play an important role. She is a medic and will increase in importance as the series advances. Previously she has also worked in the series The Greatest Divorce, Chang-ok's Letter and God of Study.
Lastly, we have an actor called Jun Suk-ho that first appeared in season 1 but becomes a little bit more important in season 2. This actor is a privileged member of a powerful clan that holds important political power in the Kingdom. He is far from being the boss but has a very comfortable life. In season 1 this was one of the cartoonish characters that I didn't like but in season 2 he becomes less cartoonish. This actor has previously worked in the series The Uncanny Counter, Hyena and Chocolate.

The performance from the cast was acceptable albeit the complete perfection of the main characters during the extremely challenging situations is hard to believe. Pretty much everyone gets corrupted in some way, but not the main character or the people near him. During a real zombie apocalypse, I doubt this would be the case since everyone will be desperate to survive. When it comes to apocalypses, the most realistic performance has been from a French series called L'Effondrement. That series, really shows how people will behave during a real apocalypse, it doesn't have any zombies though, but rather a scary civilizational collapse.
The scenery in Kingdom is beautiful just like in season 1. It really seems like a proper medieval kingdom and the people did a great job achieving the proper look of not only the buildings and different places but also the dressing of the characters.
The zombies in this series are well-done, with good makeup but they are also generic. There is nothing special about them, they are just like any other zombie you can imagine. I mention this because in another Korean zombie series called Sweet Home, some of the zombies had really cool and original designs and this made them very unique and intriguing. More than generic zombies they were like mutants of some sort.

Kingdom is a cool and original zombie series that will provide a lot of entertainment not only for zombie fans but also for people who love stories with a medieval setting. The story is well written and the series has a good pace. It has cool twists, action scenes, and drama and all of this mixed together results in a very worth watching series.
