What caught my attention about this series is that it has a setting that I have always find very enjoyable when it comes to mystery plots. The story takes place not in a massively big and not in a convoluted city but rather in a small town, which is something that works very well for this genre. Plus, the poster made it seem like there are very dark things hidden in this place.
After watching season 1 I have to say there are still many questions left to be answered, and I will soon enough begin to watch season 2 so I can know what is really happening in this town. Before explaining the good and bad things about the series, and why it didn't completely meet my expectations, I would like to mention some of the people that worked in the series.

The main director is Jan Holoubek who also worked as a writer. This is the first production directed by him that managed to be internationally known. He doesn't have too much experience working as a director and 2 of his most important previous productions are also TV series called "25 lat niewinnosci. Sprawa Tomka Komendy", and he also worked as a writer for that series, and "Odwróceni. Ojcowie i córki". These productions are so small they don't even have an international title, they are just for the Polish market. When it comes to his writing career, the film called 1800 gramów received a bit more recognition but still not enough to be known in the international market.
The other writer is Kasper Bajon, he has little experience working as a writer, and before The Mire, he only participated in 2 projects called Via Carpatia and Future Frames at KVIFF. None of these 2 projects managed to get traction in the market so The Mire is the first time a story written by him receives some recognition.
When it comes to the cast, I will only mention the 2 main actors. The main character is played by Dawid Ogrodnik, he has had an extensive career as an actor and has worked in around 30 productions so far since his career began in the late 2000s. Some of the recent productions where he has worked are Magnesium and "Icarus. The Legend of Mietek Kosz". In The Mire, he plays a young journalist who is trying to make a name for himself in the journalism world. He is very dedicated to his job and is willing to do almost anything it takes to discover a good story so he can inform the public about it and began to build up a good reputation as a journalist.
Lo que me llamó la atención de esta serie es que tiene un escenario que siempre me ha gustado mucho cuando se trata de tramas de misterio. La historia no tiene lugar en una enorme ciudad ni en una ciudad enrevesada, sino en una pequeña ciudad, que es algo que funciona muy bien para este género. Además, el póster hizo que pareciera que hay cosas muy oscuras escondidas en este lugar.
Después de ver la temporada 1, tengo que decir que todavía quedan muchas preguntas por responder, y pronto comenzaré a ver la temporada 2 para saber lo que realmente está sucediendo en esta ciudad. Antes de explicar las cosas buenas y malas de la serie, y por qué no cumplió completamente con mis expectativas, me gustaría mencionar a algunas de las personas que trabajaron en la serie.

The series begins when 2 bodies are discovered by chance in the forest. The 2 main characters, the journalists, arrived at the place to investigate what happened and finish their reports about this tragic event. While talking with the police, they receive a simple explanation about what happened to these 2 dead individuals but the younger reporter immediately perceives that something smells fishy. He isn't convinced about the official explanation given by the police, and will eventually decide to investigate further to realize what really happened.
This young journalist is in a very important period of his life. He has a career where he wants to be really successful but he will have to work hard for that, he is also about to become a father for the first time, so that means many more responsibilities in the home. All of his time is dedicated to either his investigating activities as a journalist or to his pregnant wife. The character has strong principles and he simply wants to do a good job reporting information that no one else knows.
If 2 dead bodies found in the forest isn't enough, soon enough there will be another 2 dead bodies found. These new dead individuals are even more tragic for the town because they were very young and most likely completely innocent people.
Something very bad is clearly happening in this town and what's even worse, there is constantly the feeling that important people are hiding something not only from the public but also from their subordinates. There is probably a murderous conspiracy taking place in this town, but nothing is known for sure. The possibilities of having a serial killer are also there but this is far less likely than a conspiracy involving powerful people from this town.
This town looks like it is suffering from strong human decay and in episode 5, which is the last one of season 1, the series implies there might be a paranormal or spiritual factor that influences this human decay that’s present in this place. The series doesn't belong to the paranormal genre or anything like that, it just shows a small glimpse that implies the potential presence of something strange. Not of a particular being, but more like an energy of some sort. This made the series a bit more intriguing to me but the truth is I was expecting it to be much more entertaining.
The series isn't as interesting as I was expecting. The general plot has potential, but the way it is told reduces the intensity it could have had. Despite season 1 only lasting 5 episodes, I felt the pace of the stories was slow.

La serie comienza cuando 2 cuerpos son descubiertos por casualidad en el bosque. Los 2 personajes principales, los periodistas, llegan al lugar para investigar lo sucedido y finalizar sus reportajes sobre este trágico hecho. Mientras hablan con la policía, reciben una explicación simple sobre lo que sucedió con estos 2 muertos, pero el reportero más joven inmediatamente percibe que algo parece estar mal. No está convencido de la explicación oficial dada por la policía y eventualmente decidirá investigar más para darse cuenta de lo que realmente sucedió.
Este joven periodista se encuentra en una etapa muy importante de su vida. Tiene una carrera en la que quiere ser realmente exitoso pero tendrá que trabajar duro para eso, también está a punto de convertirse en padre por primera vez, por lo que eso significa muchas más responsabilidades en el hogar. Todo su tiempo lo dedica a sus actividades de investigación como periodista y su esposa embarazada. El personaje tiene principios sólidos y simplemente quiere hacer un buen trabajo reportando información que nadie más conoce.
Si 2 cadáveres encontrados en el bosque no son suficientes, pronto se encontrarán otros 2 cadáveres. Estas nuevas muertes son aún más trágicas para la ciudad porque eran muy jóvenes y probablemente personas completamente inocentes.
Algo muy malo está sucediendo claramente en esta ciudad y lo que es peor, constantemente existe la sensación de que las personas importantes están ocultando algo no solo al público sino también a sus subordinados. Probablemente se esté produciendo una conspiración asesina en esta ciudad, pero nada se sabe con certeza. Las posibilidades de tener un asesino en serie también están ahí, pero esto es mucho menos probable que una conspiración que involucre a personas poderosas de esta ciudad.
Esta ciudad parece estar sufriendo una fuerte decadencia humana y en el episodio 5, que es el último de la temporada 1, la serie implica que podría haber un factor paranormal o espiritual que influye en esta decadencia humana que está presente en este lugar. La serie no pertenece al género paranormal ni nada por el estilo, solo muestra un pequeño atisbo que implica la posible presencia de algo extraño. No de un ser en particular, sino más bien de una energía de algún tipo. Esto hizo que la serie fuera un poco más intrigante para mí, pero la verdad es que esperaba que fuera mucho más entretenida.
La serie no es tan interesante como esperaba. La trama general tiene potencial, pero la forma en que se cuenta reduce la intensidad que podría haber tenido. A pesar de que la temporada 1 solo duró 5 episodios, sentí que el ritmo de las historias era lento.

Throughout the story, we will see corruption, lies, and evilness. If we think about it, this place can be a bit depressing because there are bad things happening all over town, and investigating about it will be an arduous job. We will see the young journalist put himself in some very bizarre situations, all of that with the goal of researching deeper about the mysterious deaths.
In the end, even though I expected something better, I decided to keep watching the series and will begin season 2 soon enough. The series isn't a failure, far from it, but it certainly could have been much more entertaining.

The cast did a good job with their roles. Some of the characters, like a sinister-looking butcher, were just great. The problem, in my opinion, wasn't with the cast but the way the story was presented to the viewer.
The scenery was great, while investigating the deaths, we will see a lot of different places throughout the town. The series also show scenes involving other characters, and the events take place in a variety of places that I found very enriching for the series. The camera work was nicely done too. Some scenes were more dramatic than otherwise thanks to the camera placement and the way the camera moved as the events were unfolding.

The Mire is a series that didn't leave me completely satisfied with it. It wasn't bad enough to avoid watching season 2 but not good enough to really recommend it to people who love mystery stories. It doesn't reach its complete potential and I believe this is related to the fact many people working on it aren't experienced enough and have never created a production for the international market. As mentioned before, I expect season 2 to improve and after I am done watching it I will be sharing my views on the complete show.

A lo largo de la historia, veremos corrupción, mentiras y maldad. Si lo pensamos bien, este lugar puede resultar un poco deprimente porque están sucediendo cosas malas por toda la ciudad, e investigar al respecto será un trabajo arduo. Veremos al joven periodista ponerse en situaciones muy extrañas, todo ello con el objetivo de investigar más a fondo las misteriosas muertes.
Al final, aunque esperaba algo mejor, decidí seguir viendo la serie y comenzaré la temporada 2 lo suficientemente pronto. La serie no es un fracaso, ni mucho menos, pero ciertamente podría haber sido mucho más entretenida.

El elenco hizo un buen trabajo con sus papeles. Algunos de los personajes, como un carnicero de aspecto siniestro, eran simplemente geniales. El problema, en mi opinión, no estaba en el elenco, sino en la forma en que se presentó la historia al espectador.
El paisaje fue genial, mientras investigamos las muertes, veremos muchos lugares diferentes a lo largo de la ciudad. La serie también muestra escenas que involucran a otros personajes, y los eventos tienen lugar en una variedad de lugares que encontré muy enriquecedores para la serie. El trabajo de la cámara también se hizo muy bien. Algunas escenas fueron más dramáticas gracias a la ubicación de la cámara y la forma en que la cámara se movía a medida que se desarrollaban los eventos.

No fue lo suficientemente mala para evitar ver la temporada 2, pero no lo suficientemente buena como para recomendarlo realmente a las personas que aman las historias de misterio. No alcanza todo su potencial y creo que esto está relacionado con el hecho de que muchas personas que trabajan en élla no tienen la experiencia suficiente y nunca han creado una producción para el mercado internacional. Como se mencionó anteriormente, espero que la temporada 2 mejore y, una vez que termine de verla, compartiré mis puntos de vista sobre la serie completa.
