I finally had the pleasure to enjoy this Argentinian movie and boy was it fun! As we can see in the poster, we have Ricardo Darin in the cast who is probably the most popular Argentinian actor right now, and Luis Brandoni who did an amazing performance in the 2018 comedy My Masterpiece which is a movie I highly recommend.
The story is about some mid-age Argentinians fellows, who decide to invest all of their savings in a new local company with the goal of improving the economy of their little town and basically do something with their lives. Except that the year is 2001... in Argentina... you can imagine what happened from this point forward.
The entire movie is very entertaining, with as many jokes and funny lines as they could include without overwhelming the story. The 2 lead actors made a great job in their roles but the less known actors were also great! By looking at the poster I can at least remember 1 good joke coming from every single character, and there are 2 dumb characters that aren't even present in the poster and are key in the funniest scene of the entire movie. This is comedy at its best.
Despite the movie having its catastrophic moments, the story is mostly a comedy where these Argentinians do everything they can to recover what they have lost. This is a must-watch if you are a fan of Ricardo Darin and, if you enjoyed My Masterpiece, Heroic Losers is even better with less bitter moments and more scenes of pure comedy gold.
The plot is also interesting, it is based on true events that wrecked Argentineans at the beginning of the century and we can see a glimpse of how their lives were affected. There is also a little bit of crime and I bet that the type of "bad guy" we see in this movie exists in more than one country in Latin America.
If you enjoy comedy do yourself a favor and watch this movie, even if you don't understand Spanish the subbed/translated version should be funny enough for it to be worth it.
The best
- This is a comedy gem. Pure gold. Extremely funny.
- No character is neglected, they all have at least 1 scene where they shine.
- 2 great leads bringing their cool charisma to this story.
- Entertaining plot.
The worst
- Perhaps some of the jokes and funny lines might get lost in the translation of the audio or in the foreign subtitles. I am not sure because I watched it in its original Spanish audio.
