When I read about this movie I was afraid this was going to be another case of politicized entertainment but thankfully this wasn't the case. The story is about 2 refugees and how they need to face challenges not only related to adapting themselves to a new country but also related to the paranormal realm and to a big mistake they did in their past.

Their home country was being consumed by war between different tribes and the only way they had to survive was to simply escape. Along with other people they used a small boat to get away from Africa in their joined attempt to reach Europe. Naturally, crossing the sea using a fragile boat is a risky decision, so not everyone survived the trip.

Throughout the movie, we will begin to see ghosts and other types of apparitions as well as creepy paranormal activity in their assigned house. They don't know why this is happening to them, but soon they will understand why and how this isn't a random haunting but actually a very intimate one.

Providing original scares in the horror genre isn't something easily accomplished, this movie does have some originality, especially when it comes to the background of the main characters. This background allows for a different type of haunting to occur and I find it all very enjoyable.

Another good thing this movie does good is the feeling of being lost and vulnerable in a strange country, there is a lot of drama involving this specific topic throughout the film but it complements the horror and increases the quality of the production. I don't know if my low expectations made me enjoy this flick more than otherwise, but I was satisfied with what it provides.

If you are looking for a good horror with an unconventional setting, then "His House" should be a good watch for you. It will satisfy fans of the horror genre, and the social issues it touches on will also be enjoyable for those that are interested in such a topic. I didn't feel it was overly politicized, which is what ruined Lovecraft Country for me, so in the end, I had a good time watching this flick.
