This was the first time I saw a series with Julia Roberts playing the main character and it was a cool experience. Homecoming is a series about a company that provides veterans of the war special treatments to overcome their trauma. They have a nice looking residency where the veterans receive proper nutrition and therapy.

Julia Roberts' character is a therapist working for this company. She has several patients under her care and she seems to be doing a good job. However, since episode 1 we know something bad happened. This story is told in 2 different periods, one when she was working for this company, and a few years later when she is working as a waiter in a small diner.

The way to differentiate these 2 periods is by their frame, the more recent events are filmed in a way that doesn't fill the screen, it looks like a square and not a rectangle. The first question viewers will ask themselves is how this person went from being a therapist to now a regular waiter? And this isn't the only mystery in the show...

As the episodes advance, and thanks to all the things the patients tell her while they are in therapy, she will eventually realize that something isn't entirely right. The purpose of this place is, in theory, to help them adapt to the civilian way of life and normalize any type of issue they might have as a result of the war. But something else seems to be going on in the shadows, something that not even the therapists are aware of.

In the scenes that take place a few years later, there is an investigation going on about this place. The dark secret behind this organization is real but not crazy. The performances from the cast were good, and the show was a nicely done production.

This was a decent mystery show, and the way everything is told makes things even more intriguing. Nevertheless, I was expecting an even more impactful mystery. Maybe this is because since the beginning the series reminded me of the movie called "A Cure for Wellness" and if you have seen that movie you surely remember the crazy twist hidden behind that wellness center. Homecoming isn't that crazy in the least, it has a more believable dark secret that could actually happen in real life. If you enjoy mysteries this series would be a good watch.

The best

  • The mystery was intriguing.
  • Good performance from the cast, especially Julia Roberts.

The worst

  • It had a soft ending and I was expecting something crazier.
