Inferno, the name itself makes it clear this story should be quite dark and with evil characters that terrorize people. This movie is the second part of "The Three Mothers trilogy", part 1 is Suspiria and part 3 is Mother of Tears which I haven't watch it and I doubt I will.
I watched Suspiria some time ago, it must have been last year, I first watched the original from 1977 and it was a very cool movie, with enjoyable creepy moments in the ballet academy. The modern remake was good as well. Sadly, Inferno is quite the downgrade when it comes to the general quality of the film.
Inferno's basic plot is that an innocent girl suddenly finds a book about the 3 Mothers, each of them are extremely ancient evil beings and when reading about one of them in the book, she happens to think the place where she lives fits the description of the place where this ancient supernatural being resides. Strange and unexplainable things begin to happen not only to her but also to people close to her, and I believe you can pretty much guess how the story continues to unfold.

This film has some moments that could be creepy, but it really didn't work for me. It wasn't because the movie is 40 years old because Suspiria is even older and I enjoyed that one a lot. It must be that the setting in this case is less creepy, it is simply a building while in Suspiria it was a ballet academy with weird teachers and helpless girls that didn't have a clue what was that place really about. Besides, Suspiria had an awesome use of colors and general decorations while Inferno simply has a normal urban aspect.
Inferno tries hard in making an impact on the viewer, and there are several scenes that are very dark and can make people uncomfortable. However, I didn't like that even the most powerful part of the plot was rather soft for me. Inferno, as I wrote at the beginning of the post, is a very strong and powerful word, but what happened in this story falls short. I was expecting something twisted or seeing horrible havocs but nope. Bad things happen, but not enough to deserve the "Inferno" name.
It is difficult to recommend this movie because even though it might have some good parts, it should be very easy to find better ones of the same genre so you must be really lacking options for this one to be your best choice.
Tomorrow I am going to continue watching horror films, an old one and a new one. If you like Stephen King stay tuned.

The best
- A few creepy scenes.
- The plot might be intriguing but the lack of important events and the overabundance of hints dilute its potential.
The worst
- The movie lacks substance and it is too slow and when the "cooking" is done, it is a disappointment.
- It doesn't honor the high quality and very enjoyable movie Suspiria.
