Lantana is a movie about the disastrous potential implications of keeping secrets. The movie begins with a scene of a dead body in what appears to be the woods. This will make the viewer think there is a murder in the plot and encourage us to look for clues about who could be the person behind this murder.
The natural next step was to introduce us to the policeman, a man who by the way, is having an affair with a woman that lives alone. This same woman is in turn, a neighbor of a young couple with small children. The remaining key character is an older wealthy couple with a dying marriage after the loss of their child.
These people are going to be part of a series of events that result in the dead of a person. There are enough problems involving each of them because all these couples suffer from communication problems with their partner, apart from this, the couples are very different from each other in both personalities and lifestyle.
The performance from the cast was acceptable, good acting all around but just as the movie itself, it is really nothing spectacular. It is simply good enough to not justify a negative critic and that's it. It was a correct job with acceptable results regarding both the plot and the acting.
One thing this movie shows is that a lack of proper communication and excess of distrust can have enormous consequences that are hard to forecast. I was actually expecting a cool mystery and what I found was a slowish drama but I still enjoyed the film.
This film is a good mystery/drama and a well-deserving watch. It has a decent pace but in the end, there is nothing brutal and the twist was very soft. I think people will enjoy it more if they approach it expecting a drama rather than a mystery.
