Metropolis is an anime movie from 20 years ago set in a futuristic city that reminded me of some of the scenes at the beginning of the story The Second Renaissance from the Animatrix anthology film. In this city, robots are generally not appreciated by the population. There is even a political group that really hates robots.

The city is very picturesque and it has so many colors that sometimes it looks like a candy store or toy store. The main villain is a young guy called Rock who has a deep hatred of robots and is also the adoptive son of the old man who is currently ruling Metropolis, which is how this megacity is called. We will see him at the beginning neutralizing a robot and showing he clearly has experience doing this type of stuff.

Metropolis es una película de anime de hace 20 años ambientada en una ciudad futurista que me recordó algunas de las escenas al comienzo de la historia The Second Renaissance de la película de antología Animatrix. En esta ciudad, los robots generalmente no son apreciados por la población. Incluso hay un grupo político que realmente odia a los robots.

La ciudad es muy pintoresca y tiene tantos colores que a veces parece una tienda de golosinas o una juguetería. El villano principal es un joven llamado Rock que tiene un profundo odio a los robots y también es el hijo adoptivo del anciano que actualmente gobierna Metrópolis, que es como se llama esta megaciudad. Lo veremos al principio neutralizando a un robot y demostrando claramente que tiene experiencia haciendo este tipo de cosas.

Eventually, this guy will learn that his father has been building a secret robot called Tima, much more advanced than any other robot ever built, and plans to allow this robot to become the new ruler of the city. Since Rock hates robots, and has some admiration for his father he cannot understand how can a "crappy" robot become the ruler, he wants his father to be the one who rules. This will make him commit several crazy decisions with nightmarish results.

He will try to destroy this robot causing what appears to be an accident in the laboratory but without him realizing it, the robot manages to survive. This is a female robot that looks exactly like a human girl and hasn't yet developed a proper understanding of language. She will be rescued by the nephew of a private detective who is doing an investigation in the city. These 2 characters will have to run and hide for their lives and we will eventually learn the true and scary capabilities of Tima.

Eventualmente, este tipo se enterará de que su padre ha estado construyendo un robot secreto llamado Tima, mucho más avanzado que cualquier otro robot jamás construido, y planea permitir que este robot se convierta en el nuevo gobernante de la ciudad. Como Rock odia a los robots y tiene cierta admiración por su padre, no puede entender cómo un robot "de mierda" puede convertirse en el gobernante, quiere que su padre sea el que gobierne. Esto le hará cometer varias decisiones locas con resultados de pesadilla.

Intentará destruir este robot provocando lo que parece ser un accidente en el laboratorio pero sin que él se dé cuenta, el robot logra sobrevivir. Este es un robot femenino que se ve exactamente como una niña humana y aún no ha desarrollado una comprensión adecuada del lenguaje. Será rescatada por el sobrino de un detective privado que está haciendo una investigación en la ciudad. Estos 2 personajes tendrán que correr y esconderse por sus vidas y eventualmente aprenderemos las verdaderas y aterradoras capacidades de Tima.

The type of animation looks a bit dated, maybe even by last's decade standards, but I still enjoyed the plot and the topics it explores. I also enjoyed the city's design even though I would have preferred a more serious tone in its color palette.

I would recommend this film if you enjoy animation and scifi. This isn't the best anime scifi I have seen, at times it even felt like a film for kids, but there were also some good scenes and the deeper implications of the plot were enjoyable. If you can tolerate some character designs that clearly look outdated, you might have a fun time watching this film.

El tipo de animación parece un poco anticuado, tal vez incluso para los estándares de la década pasada, pero aún así disfruté de la trama y los temas que explora. También disfruté del diseño de la ciudad aunque hubiera preferido un tono más serio en su paleta de colores.

Yo recomendaría esta película si te gusta la animación y la ciencia ficción. Este no es el mejor anime de ciencia ficción que he visto, a veces incluso se sintió como una película para niños, pero también hubo algunas buenas escenas y las implicaciones más profundas de la trama fueron agradables. Si puedes tolerar algunos diseños de personajes que claramente parecen obsoletos, es posible que te diviertas viendo esta película.
