Several months ago I started to watch this cool Spanish trilogy about a female detective that goes back to her hometown to investigate a series of murders, only to discover something much deeper, darker, and even worst, something that is directly related to her past.

The story is mainly about crime, specifically, a lot of babies dying and it is approached through the work of the police in trying to solve these murders. However, since the beginning, there is a slight paranormal/fantasy touch that is always present and deeply intertwined with everything we are seeing onscreen.

At the end of the second movie, it appeared the mystery was at least legally resolved, even though a key character was nowhere to be found. In this final installment, this key character wasn't as important as I was expecting. The crimes continue to happen and this forces the police to reopen the investigation and dive even deeper than before.

There will be new deaths, fewer intense moments compared to the previous 2 movies, and it has a final twist that some people will surely be able to guess as the movie advances. The cinematography is beautiful as usual but I still wonder why there is so much rain in this place. Spain is not a country known for being rainy.

The performances from the cast were on par with the previous 2 films. There was not really a surprise about how dark can this plot become because in the second movie the viewer already sees how sinister everything is. Have in mind this isn't a gore movie, there is no excessive blood or anything similar, this is simply a good mystery/suspense trilogy with a little paranormal/fantasy touch.

If you are in the mood for a good mystery trilogy, this one is certainly worth the watch. The first movie is called The Invisible Guardian, and the second one is called The Legacy of the Bones. These are all produced by Netflix. Have in mind though, that these movies can be quite dense and they last around 2 hours each so there is a lot to unpack in each part of the trilogy. Also, even though it has a paranormal/fantasy element if you are considering watching it because of that then skip it, that part of the plot is very small. If you want to watch a movie about detectives then it would be a good choice to watch these.

The best

  • We finally learn who is behind the sinister cult that is haunting this small Spanish town.

The worst

  • The origins of the cult are never explained only that it is a very ancient cult.
