Paranormal is a recently released Netflix series that despite its name doesn't really have that much horror but that doesn't prevent it from becoming a fun story that is well worth the watch. The way this show is presented to the viewer reminded me of a series called Evil because each episode has new paranormal events or investigations that are all connected in the grand scheme of things.
Evil is a better series in my opinion, but Paranormal has its good moments as well. The spooky incidents are about the apparitions of a little girl with a tragic past dressed in white, and several dark forces that are also capable of influencing the lives of people.
Each episode will present us with a situation that appears to be paranormal, and the professor will always try to find a rational explanation for everything weird he sees. He doesn't believe in the paranormal but maybe his beliefs are about to be changed once he experiences all of this crazy stuff. He is usually accompanied by various characters but these tend to change depending on the circumstances of the show.
I don't consider this series to be horror because there aren't that many scary scenes and those that were meant to be scary weren't hardcore or shocking in any sense. The special effects were crappy and this is probably the main weakness of this show. There were also disappointing performances from some secondary cast members but that didn't prevent me from enjoying the series.
The main character is charismatic even though he tends to have a funny type of self-hatred and he is constantly disappointing himself. This makes him a regular likable guy. He has his personal problems that also take part in the story, and his past is deeply linked to everything paranormal he is experiencing now. Even though he might have a bit of low self-esteem, he is more important than he realizes.
If you enjoy paranormal mysteries and especially if you enjoyed the series called Evil, then you will probably enjoy Paranormal as well. The plot is intriguing enough, and the show has good twists, especially in the end, to keep things interesting for at least another season.
