Netflix recently released a new major movie and I was able to watch it last night! It has Jamie Foxx as its main actor and the story is about a magic pill that allows the person who swallows it to develop temporary superpowers!
The pill isn't really magical but is the result of clandestine scientific investigations that are being done without the public's knowledge. The powers are different and depend on the person, each one has a different power when taking the pill. The variety of powers was nicely done and the special effects looked very good.
The setting is mostly in low-income neighborhoods, since this is a drug most people using it and selling it are poor. There is a policeman involved in this underground world to try to uncover what is happening with those pills and who is behind them and there is also another character that is involved for personal reasons.
The story is very different from the movie Limitless of 2011, in that case, the pill enables the person to unlock the unused potential in their brains which resulted in faster and better decision making capabilities. In Project Power, the pill simply gives you a random superpower that's different for each person.
This isn't a superhero production that can be compared with The Boys series because in that case, the superpowers are permanent, and in this movie they only last 5 minutes per pill. However, this movie does show a more grounded hypothetical events of what could happen if a pill with superpowers was developed. At some point in the film, it gets a bit generic but in the end, it was still a cool movie to watch.
If you are looking for a cool flick to entertain you for a while Project Power would be a great choice. The different powers were interesting and the setting was well put together. The film tries to be a good action film and it certainly accomplishes that.
Also, if you are interested in watching movies about superpowers that are really different from the typical superhero movies, I recommend you watch Brightburn (2019), Freaks (2018), and Chronicle (2012). 3 little known movies (especially the second one) that are quite awesome.
The best
- Very fun and entertaining action film.
- Cool powers and appropriate setting.
The worst
- Even though the beginning was fun and intriguing the ending felt generic.
