2 days ago I had the pleasure of watching this interesting movie that surprisingly isn't very popular. The story reminded me, at the beginning, of the new Netflix horror series called Marianne, because it is about a female author that writes about scary stories and suddenly, her writings begin to manifest in the real world.
Re-cycle is a movie that starts as a horror story, then it takes us to the fantasy realm, and finally, the movie ends with a heartbreaking and dramatic realization. In the very end, we see a final twist that leaves us with even more questions unanswered than before.
It appears as if the movie radically changes genres as it keeps advancing in the story. Eventually, the feeling of terror fades away and we find ourselves in a kind of fantasy scenario that even though it has a certain omnipresent hostile element, it is not hardcore horror like the one we see at the beginning of the film.
Once the fantasy part of the movie starts, we begin to understand what is happening in this bizarre but interesting story. The world is original and after we realize what we are seeing on the screen, it becomes a very touching movie. Nevertheless, at times, it reminded me of Silent Hill, but only for a little bit.
The story is very well crafted, and the message the movie is trying to share is complex and profound. It can leave viewers thinking about major questions in relation to life, death, and abandonment.
