Rose Island is the story about one of the most impactful anarchists of the past century. His name was Giorgio Rosa and he was a great personification of what a free spirit really is. He had the bad habit of looking like a misfit who is unable to get along with society in a normal way.
His intelligence was above average and he managed to graduate as an engineer. This would allow him to do several unique projects that no regular person would ever attempt. The first one shown in the movie was his own car. Instead of saving money and then purchasing a car, he decided to simply create one of his own, however, he was so detached from the customs of a normal mode society that he never registered the car, and much less obtained a driving license for him. This was simply a free spirit that didn't understand the need for so many rules and regulations.
One of the main motivations in the life of Georgio Rosa was a girl named Gabriella. She was his ex-girlfriend but it was pretty clear he hadn't forgotten her yet and secretly wanted her back. In the beginning, it appeared they weren't really compatible because he had such a wild and free mind, and this kind of put her off because she preferred more safety and less craziness.
The idea of creating an island came after a discussion with Gabriella where she told him something about how he couldn't do anything he wanted because there were rules and then he answered he would create his own world without rules. In the movie, the creation of the island is possible thanks to his best friend who funded the operation by stealing money from his wealthy dad. I have no clue if this is how the construction of the island was financed in real-life but either way, this fact was amusing.
After the 400 square meters platform is finished, and they call it an independent island, little by little its popularity began to increase. However, it mostly served as a place in the middle of the ocean to do wild parties and it was also at the mercy of storms. Visitors enjoyed partying on the island, but that was it, they weren't really compromised with the idea of a free and independent island. Only a handful of people were really involved in the ideology behind this entrepreneurship.
Since the island was located in international waters, the Italian government had no say in what happened there but eventually, they would end up getting fully involved after its popularity began to reach what they considered to be dangerous levels.
If you are interested in learning about unique stories, I would bet Rose Island is interesting and entertaining enough to deserve a watch. It was created as a comedy so there will be several funny scenes and dialogues throughout the film. However, even if you aren't looking for a comedy it might be good to watch it for its informative nature.
