Hulu doesn’t get as much attention as other streaming services such as Netflix or Amazon Prime Video, but sometimes they do release excellent content that is well worth the watch. A few days ago they released a good thriller called “Run” with the main role played by Sarah Paulson, one of the main faces of the anthology series American Horror Story.

The story is about a mother, Sarah Paulson’s character, and her extremely sick teen daughter, who suffers from all sorts of problems, from paralysis to asthma, including rashes and much other stuff. The girl appears to have extremely bad luck when it comes to health issues.

She has a lot of medications to be taken on a daily basis, is home-schooled, doesn’t have a father or siblings, and not even neighbors. They live in a very secluded house in a typical American small town. If things weren’t isolated enough, she doesn’t have a personal computer or smartphone. No friends or pretty much anyone to talk to on a daily basis except her mother who takes care of her with a lot of dedication.

After explaining the setting in the way I just did, realizing what this story is all about shouldn’t be hard. However, in the movie, all of this is presented in a very casual way, as if their way of life was normal, functional, and optimal given their troubled circumstances. Both of them look happy with each other and trying to make their best out of the situation.

As expected, the daughter begins to suspect things might not be what they seem to be, and eventually, she will have access to some life-changing information. The movie kept a good pace and the performance of the 2 main characters was good. Its weakest point is that there aren’t twists, and since the beginning, the film implies an important fact about the strange family situation that is later confirmed.

Despite the lack of surprises, the film was acceptable and delivered what it promised. It is a nice flick to watch for those that enjoy suspense films. A more shocking ending would have been better in my opinion but from the beginning, to the end it was an entertaining movie.
