I will start off by saying this isn't a horror movie but a strong drama with an intense religious focus. The story is about a young woman who works as a nurse. She suffered a traumatic experience in the past and she decided to adopt a strict religious persona with the goal of overcoming her issues.

She is currently working as the personal caregiver of a wealthy that lives in a mansion on the top of a mountain. The mansion is located in a small town so the scenery had the potential to get very creepy but sadly the film doesn't capitalize on it.

Since the woman is living on her own with no family and no friends, her only contact is her patient but they don't speak that much and the strict religious views from the nurse are incompatible with the preferred lifestyle of the patient, who is an atheist and a hedonist.

Due to her loneliness, she gets more and more involved with her religious believes and practices, talking constantly with God and having complete confidence that something great is waiting for her. She only needs to have patience and wait for her opportunity.

The nature of some of the weird events is made very clear at the end of the film. I guess it could be said some things were open to interpretation by the viewers but in my case and after watching the final scene, I think it was quite clear what was actually going on in the life of this nurse.

If you are looking for a very original drama with bits of horror then you might enjoy watching Saint Maud. In my case, I found it too slow and with little horror which is why I didn't enjoy it as much as I was expecting.

The best

  • It was interesting to see the events that made the nurse take those decisions.

The worst

  • I was hoping for a horror movie and not a drama one.
  • There were only 2 horror scenes which were not enough for me.

The religious theme in films in some cases exceeds what I expect and others are only forgotten.

Although I do not like this type of movies or series with religious themes, I must say that some of them are worth watching.

This one in particular doesn't catch my eye but I might see it.
