When I decided to watch this film I was expecting something scarier and much more suspenseful but it turned out that this movie is a thriller with a very strong dramatic plot. It wasn’t scary but it didn’t matter to me because I ended up enjoying it a lot.

The story is about 2 adult sisters that live together and are very religious, the older one is in her 30s and the younger one is just around 17-18 years old. Given the age difference and the fact both of their parents are dead, the older one always has a very authoritative attitude with her sister, she is the one who raised her after all.

Since the beginning of the film, we can see the oldest sister always seems to be suffering from a near nervous breakdown. She lives in a constant distressed state but that doesn’t prevent her from trying to appear somewhat normal when talking with other people, which by the way, is something that only happens in their house because she is incapable of leaving the house due to some type of psychological impediment that makes her go into a crazy panic if she steps a foot out of the door.

We will learn the reasons that explain why the older sister is like that but in short words, the family suffered tragedies, and the person in the family whose life was most affected was her, it changed her forever or rather it damaged her forever. The drama can get quite extreme and brutal in some scenes and the consequences of that dramatic events are even more shocking. This isn’t a drama for the faint of heart.

There aren’t scary scenes but there are several violent ones and even though the violence shown on the screen is not extreme, there is a lot of bloody scenes. There are twists in the story and the most important one comes in the end. I wasn’t expecting it but it made sense knowing everything that happened in those years. The writing of the story was well done despite the fact some events felt forced.

The main actress who played the older sister had an absolutely great performance. Her nervous ticks looked very authentic and she always displayed a distressed look perfectly portraying the deep emotional issues this character has been facing for years. This actress is clearly the star of the movie. The rest of the cast had OK performances.

If you are looking for a strong drama that can get extreme at times this film would be a very good choice. It has a boring beginning but once the final breakdown begins to happen it will continue nonstop. As mentioned before, there is blood in several scenes and a bit of gore so have that in mind as well.

The best

  • Very entertaining dramatic story.
  • Great performance from the main actress.

The worst

  • It had a small plot hole that left me feeling frustrated.
  • A key event in the movie that introduces a new character was too unlikely to be believed.
