One of the main movies releases this December is Soul, the latest major animated production from Disney. After watching Netflix's Christmas movie I decided to go a see what Disney had to offer with this new story.
This new movie provides a similar message to that of the movie Inside Out, also from Disney and released several years ago. Inside Out was about the emotions of a teenage girl, and Soul explores an even broader topic regarding the wish to live and what makes life worth living.
The main character is a regular guy who happens to be a piano player, music is his passion and his biggest dream is to succeed as a piano player with a live audience. He doesn't have a wife or kids yet because his life is completely focused on his piano skills and on advancing his career.
The movie is named Soul because a big part of the story happens with characters that are in an ethereal state. This reality, which I suppose could be called the "soul reality" has several guardians that keep everything in order and allow the souls to develop themselves in peace and with freedom.
In this movie, life could be divided into 3 parts, before life on Earth, life on Earth, and the afterlife. Most of the supernatural scenes happen in the "before" part where a bunch of newborn souls are learning and figuring out who they are.
The main character gets involved in all of this by accident, but this will turn out to be a very valuable journey with a lot of lessons to be learned. The movie has several positive messages and the high-quality animation makes it a must-watch for those who enjoy meaningful animated stories.

The worst
- It wasn't as touching as Inside Out.
