Yesterday I was checking some movie lists in IMDb and I was surprised to see this Matrix-related anime. I knew there was more to the Matrix than just the trilogy but I thought it was mostly comics, not an entire animated movie! Since I loved the Matrix trilogy you can guess how excited I was when I realized I could learn more about its world thanks to these animated stories.

The Animatrix is an anthology film, it contains 9 short independent animated stories. 2 of them are prequels to events in the movies and the rest are spin-offs that explore more about this world. The characters in this film are all new but Neo and Trinity make small secondary appearances. The type of animation varies from story to story, just like in the Netflix anthology series Love, Death & Robots. Some animations are completely breathtaking while others are regular. What's important though is the story they tell.

Ayer estaba revisando algunas listas de películas en IMDb y me sorprendió ver este anime relacionado con Matrix. Sabía que había más sobre Matrix que solo la trilogía, pero pensé que eran principalmente cómics, ¡no una película animada completa! Como me encantó la trilogía de Matrix, puedes adivinar lo emocionado que estaba cuando me di cuenta de que podía aprender más sobre su mundo gracias a estas historias animadas.

The Animatrix es una película de antología, contiene 9 historias animadas independientes cortas. 2 de ellas son precuelas de eventos en las películas y el resto son spin-offs que exploran todo este mundo. Los personajes de esta película son todos nuevos, pero Neo y Trinity hacen pequeñas apariciones secundarias. El tipo de animación varía de una historia a otra, al igual que en la serie de antología de Netflix Love, Death & Robots. Algunas animaciones son completamente impresionantes, mientras que otras son regulares. Sin embargo, lo importante es la historia que cuentan.

I believe the most important shorts of all are The Second Renaissance Part 1 and 2. These shorts show the series of events that caused the war between man and machine and our ultimate enslavement and exploitation as biological batteries by the machines. Since this story is a prequel to the films I believe most people should watch them in order to have a better grasp of the Matrix world.

In the other stories we will see a bunch of different things, we will see a kid waking up inside the matrix and realizing everything is a lie, an athlete rebelling against the matrix and achieving a performance that would only be possible by an awakened person, a detective on the brink of doing a major discovery about the nature of his world, a "haunted" house where crazy stuff happens and this is actually a bug in the matrix that needs to be fixed, and other cool things.

Creo que los cortos más importantes de todos son The Second Renaissance Part 1 y 2. Estos cortos muestran la serie de eventos que causaron la guerra entre el hombre y la máquina y nuestra esclavitud y explotación como baterías biológicas por parte de las máquinas. Dado que esta historia es una precuela de las películas, creo que la mayoría de la gente debería verlas para tener una mejor comprensión del mundo de Matrix.

En las otras historias veremos un montón de cosas diferentes, veremos a un niño despertando dentro de la matrix y dándose cuenta de que todo es mentira, un atleta rebelándose contra la matrix y logrando una actuación que solo sería posible por una persona despierta, un detective a punto de hacer un descubrimiento importante sobre la naturaleza de su mundo, una casa "embrujada" donde suceden cosas locas y esto es en realidad un error en la matrix que necesita ser arreglado, y otras cosas interesantes.

The Animatrix provides immense value both as a prequel and spin-off. It is one of the best-animated production I have seen, and it makes the Matrix universe much more engrossing to me. I would have preferred deeper dialogue and more philosophical discussions in The Second Renaissance stories but I still enjoyed them a lot. The Matrix universe certainly has much more potential and I quite hyped about the Matrix 4 movie that will be released in the coming months.

If you enjoy scifi and especially if you are a fan of the Matrix trilogy, I believe watching the Animatrix is a must. I even think there should be still room for more spin-offs but I am very content with the 9 stories this film provided.

Animatrix proporciona un valor inmenso tanto como precuela como spin-off. Es una de las mejores producciones animadas que he visto, y hace que el universo de Matrix sea mucho más fascinante para mí. Hubiera preferido un diálogo más profundo y discusiones más filosóficas en las historias del Segundo Renacimiento, pero aún así las disfruté mucho. El universo de Matrix ciertamente tiene mucho más potencial y estoy bastante entusiasmado con la película Matrix 4 que se lanzará en los próximos meses.

Si te gusta la ciencia ficción y especialmente si eres fanático de la trilogía Matrix, creo que ver Animatrix es imprescindible. Incluso creo que debería haber espacio para más spin-offs, pero estoy muy contento con las 9 historias que proporcionó esta película.
