I remember 2 years ago when Netflix released the original "The Christmas Chronicles" and how cool that movie was. Kurt Russell made such a nice performance being Santa and the film provided a very appropriate mood for Christmas time. Netflix's Christmas movie from last year was an animated one, Klaus, which was the second best-animated movie from that year with the first one being obviously the new Toy Story.
Now, this year, Netflix decided to release the second part of "The Christmas Chronicles", this film was actually released in November but I was waiting for the day after Christmas to watch it. This movie happens 2 years later after the events of the first one and introduces a new threat that could destroy Christmas forever.
Right from the beginning of the film, I noticed the performances from the cast were subpar. I don't remember thinking this when watching the first film 2 years ago but I think this time the cast wasn't as inspired as before. There is a new kid who plays an important role and I didn't enjoy his performance sadly. But it wasn't just him, the girl, played by Darby Camp, wasn't very convincing neither.
The only adults playing important characters were Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus, and both of them had some good moments, especially Santa, but not enough to say the film had a generally good performance from the cast.
The movie gets better in the second half but at times it definitely felt as if the script was written in a rush or putting minimal effort. It can be enjoyed, especially these days with the Christmas spirit feeling high, but I honestly don't think there will be a third part. The Christmas Chronicles lost a lot of steam between parts 1 and 2, and it is probably better to just leave it like that.
If you are looking for a cool family movie this is a great choice but don't expect anything too great. It is watchable and younger audiences will certainly love it.

- It tried too hard to be funny without actually achieving it.
