This is one of the most promising recently released horror movies and I was very excited to watch it. The story takes place in a very remote home where there are no neighbors and no sight of civilization. The owners of the house are a very old couple and they are being visited by their 2 adult children because their dad is extremely sick.
The farm is very big and they have a lot of animals, a barn, and are completely surrounded by nature and woods. This is the perfect place to have a sense of isolation and terror if you are being haunted by evilness.
The type of horror in this film is similar to the one that can be experienced in the well-known movie called "Hereditary". What I mean by this, is that the horror isn't represented by a single character or place, it can take many forms and manifest itself in different locations. This film and Hereditary have a sinister atmosphere where it is noticeable that something bad is gaining ground but nothing can be done to stop it. Tragedy continues its due course, and characters are nothing more than pawns.
It has very crude and shocking scenes that could be considered hardcore horror by some, but if you are an experienced horror fan then you will hardly be shocked by what this film has to offer. It has certain moments with enough originality but I was also left a bit disappointed because the poster is an exaggeration of a short scene that lasts around 1 or 2 seconds.
The characters in this film are miserable because of the tragedy they are going through, the events are extremely harsh and the evilness that is present is brutal in its deceits. There is no compassion for anyone in this place, they are simply being outplayed by greater forces, which unfortunately for them, are evil.
If you are a fan of the horror genre this will surely be a fine flick to watch, and if you enjoyed Hereditary, this is the most similar movie that you will be able to find. There are some bloody scenes that aren't for my tastes, but it was not extremely gory and it was just to show the deteriorated mental state of a character. The majority of the film is suspense, a lot of drama, and evil horror.
The best
- Serious horror movie. I enjoyed it.
- Throughout the film we will see several characters and silhouettes that are visible enough for most people to easily realize they are there.
The worst
- I was expecting it to be better, but it was good nonetheless.
- The poster is misleading, which was a disappointment to me.
