It has been a while since the last time I saw a crime documentary and I was very excited to watch this one because the reviews it received back when it was released were all positive. This documentary was released by HBO and consisted of the life of a wealthy New Yorker whose family manages a multi-generational fortune.

This guy is already an old man and just by looking at him, it is clear he has suffered emotional traumas or something similar because he has a bunch of ticks on his face, and I believe if we could see his hands and legs there would also be ticks and constant nervous movements in those parts.

The documentary was produced by HBO because he was a suspect in not one but 3 murders of people who were close to him. The first one was his first wife, then years later his best friend who was also a woman, and the last murder was of his male neighbor who ended up being mutilated and dumped on a beach.

We will learn that he did in fact experienced extremely bad circumstances when he was very young, and this was probably the seed for everything bad that resulted in his deteriorated personality and bad looks. However, being a weird person with ticks doesn't mean they are guilty of any crime, even if people close to him have ended up dead 3 times throughout his life.

I was expecting a more shocking and fast-paced documentary but it was actually very slow and sometimes even boring. I watched it because I knew the last episode had a surprise but its slow pace greatly reduced my enjoyment of the production. On the other hand, a good thing about the documentary is how deep the investigators went into the rabbit hole. It is fair to say they did even a better job than the police.

I have seen better crime documentaries from Netflix but this one from HBO is worth watching only due to all the effort the researchers put into it. The final revelation in the last episode was explosive but not that unexpected. If you are in the mood for a cool documentary about murders with a bizarre main suspect then you should check this one out.

The best

  • This was an amazing investigative work from the creators.

The worst

  • Very slow-paced which can make the viewers lose interest.
