Several weeks ago a new series was released called The Stand that’s based on a Stephen King’s story. I was thinking about watching that series but since I wasn’t convinced by what I read about it I decided to instead check the original series from 1994. Sometimes the original productions are way better than the remakes even though they might seem dated.
The Stand is a story about the end of the world. Everything begins when a virus gets accidentally leaked and tons of people begin to get sick very rapidly. Similar to what we have been experiencing since last year thanks to the covid pandemic but much worse.

This is a miniseries with only 4 episodes but each of them lasts around 90 minutes so consider this something like a saga instead of a series. Once the virus begins to kill an alarming amount of people, drastic measures will be taken from the government in order to contain it and fix the situation. The series only shows events in America but the whole world was probably affected as well. What does take place only in America is the fight between good and evil.
The virus will cause civilization to collapse. If there are not enough people then there won’t be enough manpower to sustain the basic functioning of the country. When this stage is reached the 2 sides of the incoming spiritual battle will begin to form.

There will be a lot of bizarre characters in this story. There is a person who is mute and deaf, a retard, a crazy psycho woman, and many other characters that together created an interesting group to watch. The things I disliked the most was how the evil force committed stupid mistakes, this being is supposed to be supernatural and all-knowing or at least something close to that and sometimes he acted like a drunken idiot. There was also a little accident on a small hill suffered by one of the main characters and the way it happened was very silly as well.
If you enjoy stories about the apocalypse this might be a good one to watch. I was disappointed because some important events felt forced, the acting of some characters was very weird, and a supernatural being commits silly mistakes. It also has crappy special effects but this was understandable because the series is from 1994. At least it provided some entertaining moments and the story is clearly very original.

The best
- Entertaining apocalyptic story.
The worst
- The special effects were really crappy.
- Some events were anti-climatic.
