When I first saw this series' trailer and read what it was about, I had a good idea of what to expect from it, and after watching it, I must say this series delivered exactly what I wanted. Since the first look, it was clear this story would be very similar to some well-known previous movies such as The Wicker Man and Midsommar.
I love mystery stories, and I loved the 2 movies mentioned above, especially Midsommar, so this is a genre and a type of story that happen to enjoy a lot. This time, the story takes place on a small island that's near the coast and has the peculiarity of a small road that connects the 2 lands. This road can be below water for several hours a day due to a high tide and the locals know the hours in which the road is passable. It is clear to see this road can provide a lot of opportunities for intense moments.
The series is divided into 2 parts with 3 episodes each. The first part is about Jude Law's character, how he discovers the island, when does he go there, and how he slowly realizes what this place is all about. The scenography is breathtaking which makes it even more enjoyable for the viewer.
The second part of the series, this means episodes 4, 5, and 6, is about a different character who also arrives at the island many months later and has good reasons to do so, which we will learn at the end of episode 4. This episode, by the way, the fourth one, was the one I disliked the most because there were a lot of extremely stupid decisions that didn't make sense. But the twist at the end of it changed everything and it gave reasons for the stubbornness displayed earlier in the main character.

I don't believe there is a paranormal element in this story although this is implied in the last episode I think there are reasons to believe this is not a paranormal place. This is just a small island full of isolated people with a strange twisted religion. The island does have secrets but by the end of the series, the viewer will have a complete understanding of everything. One of the good things about this show is that it doesn't leave questions unanswered.
The performance from the cast is also very well-done. There are a lot of dramatic events that take place on the island, and the way Jude Law and Naomie Harris display their emotions is awesome. The entire town on the island always has this eerie feeling and light effects were used to enhance this impression. I loved that.
If you are looking for a cool mystery series, and if you enjoyed at least 1 of the movies I mentioned in the first part, then you should definitely check this series out. For fans of this genre, this would certainly be one of the best series of recent years.

The best
- Excellent mystery series.
- The scenography was very beautiful.
- It doesn't leave mysteries unanswered.
The worst
- It might be too slow for some people, but for me, it had the pace I was expecting.
- Some characters take decisions that can look stupid but as we learn more about this place and about the characters, we understand why these stupid decisions were taken.
