A few days ago and thanks to a comment from @jcrodriguez, I discovered this Argentinian movie called "The Weasel's Tale" and it immediately caught my attention due to the presence of Luis Brandoni and Oscar Martínez in the cast. I have watched previous comedies with these actors and they are both great, especially Brandoni in the film My Masterpiece.
In The Weasel's Tale, the main characters are 4 Argentinian old glories from the entertainment industry, a popular actress, her husband who was a small-time actor, a writer, and a director. They are living in a big property owned by the actress, and they are just enjoying life and having a nice time growing old together. Well, that applies to the 3 men, because the woman has grown frustrated, irritable, and is just unhappy after sharing her home for so many years with the 2 noisy men. She is happy with her husband though.
One day, while the 3 men are having a chat, a car arrives at the property and a young couple asks them if they can use their telephone. Since the first second these men looked at the couple they had the feeling they were not trustworthy but their kind attitude and excessive flattery towards the old actress, convinced her to allow them inside the home and not only she even gave them a tour!
It is made clear for the viewers this young couple is planning something because all the flattery from the young guy towards the old lady feels fake as hell. However, she isn't able to see through his lies and simply believes everything he says to her. They even end up developing what appears to be a good and innocent friendship.
What this young couple is trying to do, is to take over the property and using the land for one of their construction projects. They are willing to do anything it takes to purchase the property, and are well prepared to handle all sorts of inconvenience. This will be a strategic battle between the wise old folks and the young ruthless couple.
If you like Argentinian black comedies such as My Masterpiece or The Distinguished Citizen, this will surely be a good movie to watch. This isn't the best comedy from Argentina I have seen though, that would be Heroic Losers, but it is certainly a great film and is right up there among the best ones from Argentina.
The best
- It was a very entertaining black comedy.
The worst
- Some scenes/dialogues didn't feel very spontaneous but this only happened like 2 or 3 times.
- The ending was kind of extreme but at least it was in tune with the black comedy.
