I have resumed my viewings of classic films and the one I just watched was a well-known thriller from the early 90s! The Player is about a high-profile executive from Hollywood who spends his time making deals with writers and making sure the productions are well executed.
He has a very busy life and is often quite short on time, which means he usually dismisses people very quickly in order to avoid wasting his precious time. Little does he know that one of the people he will dismiss turns out to be a kind of psychopath that becomes obsessed with him even to the point of sending death threats.
The tension keeps building up throughout the entire movie and bad things inevitably start to happen. In the end, the movie saves us a surprise about the actual nature of what we are actually watching.
The movie has a very unique and original plot, it has some well-known faces that are still popular even today. One of the things I would have preferred is for the main character to be more brutal about his arrogance, it is too subtle. However, given the fact I just came from watching A Christmas Carol maybe I am a bit desensitized regarding this aspect of the character.
This story can be seen as an attempt to portray a dark and corrupt side of the Hollywood industry. But in a way, it falls kind of short. Especially because there is not that much corruption going on in the larger part of the movie.
I would still recommend this movie for those that enjoy crime films and thrillers.

The best
- Great performance from the lead actor.
- A bit of comedy here and there.
The worst
- Despite the interesting plot, the movie could have been more entertaining.
- It can be considered a slow movie.
