Many months ago I started to watch this anime series thinking it would be a good horror show. In the beginning, in season 1, I became very disappointed because the show was extremely silly and it looked as if it was for kids. But I continued watching it and then the crazy stuff began to happen. Season 1 has some extremely bloody and hardcore scenes but it is also very confusing.

The story takes place in a small Japanese town, a new boy just arrived at school and he is making friends with a lot of students. It might seem suspicious, but of the main characters, he is the only male student, all the other young people are females with the exception of a previous character who is no longer there. However, after watching 2 seasons I can say there is no conspiracy behind this fact.

The dark part of the story happens because every year, there is a disappearance in the town and it always happens after a local festival is celebrated. What was weird about season 1, is that without any explanation, each time a brutal tragedy took place, in the next episode everything went back to normal as if nothing had happened. Dead characters will reappear and it felt as if time was reset.

The main plot will begin to make sense and reach its end in season 2, but in order to learn about the complete scope of this story and about the background of some of its characters, you will have to see all the seasons available. This is a complex story with the potential for a lot of ramifications.

In the first few episodes of season 2, we will learn the main question about all the craziness in season 1. This is why season 2 is a must-watch, otherwise, the story won't make sense. There will also be a new important character that I don't remember seeing in season 1, and she will be of main importance for finding a solution to all the bad stuff that kept happening in season 1. We will learn why the people went crazy over and over again in season 1, and why everything bad kept happening but slightly different each time.

There is a bit of fantasy in season 2 and much less violence and craziness. It was not as intriguing for me compared to season 1 but it was still enjoyable to see how everything got solved in the end.

If you are looking for a complex anime story this might be a good choice. However, it requires you to watch 50 anime episodes in order to finish the main plot. This might be too much for a lot of people, so perhaps it would be better to watch something else. The story is indeed intriguing but it requires a lot of involvement from the viewer.

The best

  • Original and entertaining story.
  • Complex plot.

The worst

  • Too silly and childlike for my tastes.
  • The dialogues were pretty basic.
  • Season 2 doesn't have the brutal moments that season 1 had.
