Some time ago I saw a respectable twitter user, who is famous for his movie recommendations and for having a film festival in Spain, tweeting about how great this new British series was and that it was even better than Black Mirror. I watched the entire season, and honestly, the 2 shows can hardly be compared.
Years and Years is more focused on the drama aspect, with a slight touch of futurism and what seems like crazy technology. Black Mirror on the other hand breaths futurism in almost every episode with mind-bending stories and situations.
I was like 3-4 episodes into Years and Years and I was about to stop watching the show because a lame dramatic subplot was consuming too much time. But I decided to continue to watch the entire season and it was OK, not great like Black Mirror (with the exception of the last post-Bandersnatch season which was very disappointing).
Years and Years is a decent drama, but it is not a top-notch show like Black Mirror.
