I don't see many Spanish movies but I have seen many movies with Belen Rueda and she is an amazing actress, besides, the horror genre is one of my favorites so I am always looking for new potentially good horror productions to enjoy.
You Shall Not Sleep is a movie about a very intense play that will be held in a very creepy place. So the cast is also acting as a play-actors in this film. The story takes place in an abandoned psychiatric hospital where horrible things happened several decades in the past.
That's not where the creepy stuff ends, because in order for the play-actors to really achieve an amazing performance, the woman in charge of this play has a plan to deprive them of sleep in order to induce a sort of augmented perception regarding the senses, which will help them to really get involved with their characters.

The movie has several creepy scenes and a new way of trying to scare the viewers that I haven't seen before. However, neither its horror nor its plot are actually good enough. It is a shame because the basic plot certainly sounds promising, but after watching the film I was left a little bit disappointed.
Belen Rueda, who is the actress for whom I decided to watch this movie does a good job with her role, and the sleep deprivation topic is always interesting to explore within the boundaries of a horror production, but the end result in this case wasn't really that good. It is a real shame because I was really expecting to have a good time with this flick.
If you are a fan of the horror genre, Spanish cinema or Belen Rueda, then you might have a higher chance of enjoying this film. I wouldn't recommend it to the general public because it is so easy to find better horror movies even in Spanish. In fact, not so long ago I wrote about an amazing Argentinian horror film called Terrified that was very cool.

The best
- Original premise.
- Good moments thanks to the main actresses.
The worst
- Not very entertaining, nor horrifying.
- Some jumpscares were predictable.
