There are movies which are created in pieces and they connect each other in such way that they tend to give you multiple interpretation. If it were to be any other director, you could ignore it but when David Lynch makes something, you pay attention.
Mulholland Drive is one such David Lynch creation which would confuse you in such way that you would come up with many google searches for the "Explained" search type for this movie too. This movie has that much depth which would keep you engaging for hours.

Story
There are many ways to put up this story. In one way it can be viewed as a journey in a dream or journey which tries to correct itself once the regret hits up. Naomi watts is shown in control of the lead girl who has dreams and ends up in regret. Then suddenly there is switch in the story where all the dreams and aspiration of the naomi watts are shown achieved by another lead actress. So the story is kind of like your christopher nolan type except the way David Lynch puts it, that would complicate in your head.

The timeline when this movie was made, the LGBT was struggling for the mainstream attention. And now todays time they are kind of dominating the society. But at that time the LGBT relationships used to end up in horror way. And that shows up in the David Lynch's narration too. A lot of girls in LA come to become an actress and then succumb to the drugs and the addiction and ego. That part is also shown as well.
Here each character in the plot is connected to something that relates to the naomi watts journey as well as the another lead actress journey. And the usage of the "bellisimo" fortune tellers dialogue is used for the twist as well. Which many of you would get the reference on how it swaps the journey of the two. It's definitely gripping to touch on small details like this.
Acting
This was one of the earlier works of the Naomi watts and other actress Laura harring which too appear to be new during that time. However only Naomi watts seems to have managed to persist for years and you can guess why from the acting in this movie. And David lynch has used each character in such way that they don't have to put up much work on the acting but more of do the needful for the flow of the story.

I didn't find any form of the flaw in the execution of the story. And so I didn't had any objection towards the acting done by the Laura and the Naomi in the movie. Small amount of the details added into the movie remind you of the David Lynchs other movies. But this movie has a vibe to the movie such that you would just love it for the acting and the execution.
Direction and Plot Execution
Why this movie is so much complicated so much so that you would need to find it's explanation. I am not just going to give complete blame on the David Lynch. The direction here is so much detailed that they have used small characters and the small habit details that are the need of the story.
Take example of the successful actress who tastes a bit of rejection and starts to consume the drugs and the alcohol. This could be story of any other Hollywood actress disaster story. But this is not just that it has a lot of other things into it which kind of makes you think about how spiral behavior goes down.

David didn't miss to add some of the symbolic in the story. They seem to be coming into this movie too. Like say twin peaks, lost highway had those sort of the symbolic into them as well. And that continued in the same note and it gets added into the movie too. You may surely note as you watch the till the end. A lot of interesting pointers added that would kind of distract as well.
Best Part
David lynch makes the best movies in the thriller mystery genre and there is no doubt about it. And this movie just continues to add the same in the genre. This movie however has the sad and the dark vibe into it. And most of the inner sadness can be felt from this movie. A lot of artists and people who have inner sadness may surely realize this as they watch the movie.
I'd say flow of the story, story itself and the character development is definitely a good treat. Actresses did the perfect justice to their roles in the movie.
Worst Part
There is a reason why you may find the movie has some gaps. And those gaps prompt you to make google search for explained movie reviews and the movie endings. So David lynch's purposeful direction often can be complicated for people who are not into such type of the movies would not be liking it in one sitting and instead they have learn about what its all about from others.
So should you watch this movie?
This is definitely a good movie for those who are into the psychological mystery thriller genre. I recommend this not just for the plot but also for the character development and the acting of the various characters in the movie.
