Hello friends!
Another weekend has passed and I have seen another series on Netflix, and the good thing is that as I like there are series from different countries, of all kinds of genres and plots, so we can enjoy more variety and not always more of the same.
One of the ones that has caught my attention lately is Şahmaran (originally in Turkish) or Shahmaran, a Turkish series but not like the ones we usually can watch on normal television today in many countries. More of a classic soap opera style, but something different, with a certainly more modern and fantastic twist.
And there are those who comment that this series could be the Turkish "Twilight" due to some of its similarities, there may at some point be many details that remind us of that vampire saga.
Why? What is it about?
--> Be careful, maybe some details might be SPOILER<--
It is about a girl who travels to her origin land, well, she travels to another area of Turkey, further away from the big city of Istanbul, to the east where traditions and also legends persist. And she goes looking for answers, to find out more about her family now that her mother has passed away.
She meets her grandfather and by coincidences in life she decides to stay for a while with a project at the university. While the magic happens. Next door to her house lives a strange family, a mysterious and elegant father, some sisters and a brother who are there away all day, talking a lot and watching... humans.
Because... are they? Who are they?
Another race seems to coexist with the local people, at the same time that a fantastic legend becomes reality, marking the life especially of the young protagonist who is finding out what is happening. Because things happen, because it seems that there is imminent danger, conflict that is coming, revenge and painful memories of the past. A past in which her family is intermingled with that destiny of predictions and omens, and with her and a predestined love in the present.
So Sahsu the girl protagonist and "the chosen" one guy Maran (curious how their two names merge in the title itself, in the legend of the serpent men) fall in love in an environment where reality is fantastic.
The Message
I like the message that is inferred from the whole story: how humans have always treated everything as they wanted without thinking more. How interest and betrayal have ruled them for centuries, how they have thoughtlessly damaged nature and everything they loved even. And in this story it seems that it is not going to be tolerated anyway, because there are more beings that live in this world, and here others of them decide that it cannot continue so they have to rise up before all this, while the most peaceful advocate for a greater understanding , even a fusion between both groups, to live in harmony in future generations where love and respect for nature prevail.
It seems that the war may be open, it does not seem that it ends there in that last chapter, and that there will be another season, but that setting of historical legend among ruins, among a population that continues to live in another era, in a tradicional town, and that dreamy and fantasy touch, makes this series an entertaining thing to watch.
EXTRA: The Soundrack
A curious note. During one of the chapters Sahsu, the girl plays music on her mobile and she dances wildly a different song that I liked but it stayed there, I didn't think about it anymore. But a few days later in a playlist of "News" on Spotify suddenly I hear it, now I listen to it Rebel Moves - Every When
I don't know if I have told too much or if it has encouraged you to watch it, if not you can always listen to the song and tell me what you think too.
Happy Tuesday!
