Sanditon: A romantic TV show for lovers of Jane Austen's novels

Review by @duvinca · 1137d · of Sanditon

Hello friends!

There are those who always like the same type of books, series and movies, and others like varied things, it happens to me. And among everything I like, I like that kind of universe that Jane Austen's novels have shaped in the minds of many readers. And from other people who, inspired by those works full of feelings and emotions, in such a formal world in such a romantic environment, have created other works, and also films and series.

I like TV shows that are inspired by classic novels, there is always a debate about whether the book or the movie is better, but... why not enjoy both? The vision is different, especially for example when the novel was left unfinished and the series has been in charge of giving it an end.

That happens with Sanditon (TV show), inspired by an unfinished work by Jane Austen who left it incomplete because she died a few months later. But the series has given it an end. It is a series that despite that, does not have many pretensions but looks lavish and lovely, although simple and endearing at the same time. It is a delicate and kind drama TV series, for anyone with romantic airs, obviously not for everyone because it is sweet, perhaps very sweet, but also funny and with a point of protest.

A rural girl who arrives to a seaside town that hopes to become a vacation spot for the English upper class in the 19th century, there many things happen... and the plots of its characters unfold. Many of its protagonists are young (and clever) women who are pushed into marriage but at the same time fight for their independence. But love crosses in various ways for some of them, and the other male characters also play their role, the perfect lover, the shy lover, the selfish manipulator or the resigned friend. But there is more, good people, families and friendships and also dances and funny moments, witty dialogues full of irony from some characters with a lot of personality and character.

There are also allusions to slavery and how descendants can get a new life, the sugar trade with colonies, attempts to scam and get rich, judgments, sad deaths and disappearances... Then in a new season (there are three seasons in total), other people appear in Sanditon and new troubles, misunderstandings, friendships and romances begin again. Because there is always a new beginning, a new opportunity to be happy (even at older ages) and find the love of life.

It sounds beautiful, as beautiful are the costumes that everyone wears, and the settings are as many as the interiors in elegant houses and decorated with splendor, as well as the walks on the beach. Many moments several of these beloved characters have shared thoughts and feelings walking on the sand or horse racing near the waves.

It must be said that there are no great special effects or a large budget in some matters because everything usually takes place in the same places, but it is not necessary because both the image and the story are exquisite.

A romantic series, it is true, very sweet, calm and with almost entirely predictable endings, not all of them, but the ones we are waiting for are, but what does it matter? Can't we lovers of Jane Austen's novels enjoy a happy ending to a fairy tale?

Well yes, let's dream, enjoy without stress, with joy, hope and lots of love.

I do not want to delve further into the plot so as not to reveal it to you. So let me know if you have watched it or you plan to do it.
