Hello friends!
Especially during the weekends we have a little more time or we feel like watching a series or movie, now in these cold days with a blanket on the sofa for example. And there is a lot of content available, sometimes almost too much, and choosing what to watch can be difficult.
Among so many options, I have already wanted in previous posts and in this one to emphasize that content that is pleasant to see, as I have seen that they called it "Comfort Series". This type of series would be those that are pleasant to watch without further ado, that for a moment move us away from large productions with great effects, montages and resources, or from extremely violent, unpleasant films or dystopian series that are repeated one after another and they seem to want to resemble reality, but we already live enough in a dystopia, so let's choose something different and beautiful to look at, without pretensions, just something with a warm and endearing simplicity.
Previously I mentioned series in other reviews like All Creatures Great & Small, or The Larkins for example. Well now another totally delicious and stupendous series, so much so that I would have liked to teleport myself there, to be part of all that and sit at the table with them dunking our feet in the sea. The TV show is The Durrells.
The review
The Durrells are a family that decides to change their life, betting on a radical change. So Louisa Durrell, a widowed English woman and tired of her life in England with her four children, decides that she does not want to continue like this, drinking gin, and since they have little money, finally after some absurd conversation between all of them, they go to Corfu, one of the largest islands of Greece.
And they arrive at the sunny and paradisiacal island of Corfu, and in addition to a radiant sun they find a local taxi driver named Spiros who likes the English and helps them in everything he can, so much so that he ends up becoming one more from the beginning until the end together with other locals that appear in their lives. From then on, in a much cheaper but also poor and different place, there are many adventures and funny, strange or difficult situations but always in a humorous tone thanks to the strange personalities of their children: Lawrence, Leslie, Margo and Gerald.
A curious fact
Regarding the latter, the youngest, Gerald, it must be said that he was the one who inspired the series since it is based on his autobiography, that is, it is a story based on real events, and it was the youngest son himself who told it, despite the fact that the famous writer was his older brother. But he, a great lover of animals, managed to open a zoo and a foundation with his now well-known last name.
But it must be said that fiction is often more embellished than reality because on the Internet (for example here on DailyMail's article) we found information about what life was like for the members of this family after those idyllic years and it was not as we might think unfortunately. I was curious but maybe it was almost better not to have read it...
And my thoughts
Going back to fiction, what is most enjoyed is that Mediterranean panorama, understanding or not understanding between different cultures, adaptation to a very different environment, good or bad relationships between people and in the family, dreams and vocations, and many more moments that make you smile and in some, especially at the end, that tears appear, because somehow you get closer to that curious, fun and extravagant family, welcoming, kind and with great hopes who lived a dream in the Mediterranean, becoming a part of the heart of the Greek island.
It can even make us think or dream of living something similar, of doing as they did, leaving everything and starting a new life adventure far away, in a place that you hardly know and in which you hardly understand anything, without having anything and without knowing what will happen, and discover that in the end, it is the people around us who make the home.
