The Shonen Jump, being the most popular manga magazine in Japan, also has the most demanding fan base and that is because the most popular manga in history was born from this magazine. Therefore, having such a high level of demand, it is common that many mangas that have been published in Shonen Jump are eventually cancelled. Recently I talked about the cancellation of Bleach, which due to loss of popularity, the magazine pressured Tite Kubo (creator of Bleach) to give it an end, having a not so good result. Recently the most shocking cancellation came from Naruto's creator, Masashi Kishimoto, who had his new manga, Samurai 8, cancelled prematurely, not even publishing the chapters that his mangaka had planned.
But this is only two cases, since in the history of Shonen Jump there have been a huge amount of cancelled mangas, being one of them the one I will talk about next and that, despite it wasn't a spectacular manga, it was really good and promising. I remember starting to read this manga because in a video that I had seen in Youtube they had recommended it (I don't remember which video it was exactly, this was many years ago), and when I saw that the manga had a drawing style similar to Bleach, it called my attention and I started to read it.
Psyren as a Shonen manga, keeps all the topics related to this kind of manga, so we are facing a story of overcoming, adventure and many powers. Psyren in a mixture between battle royale and a survival game, since everything begins when a strange being called Nemesis Q, transports the main character of the series, Ageha Yoshina, to "another world", Psyren, and this one will discover that he has not been the only one who has been sent to this world, that with only seeing it, we can observe that it is a post-apocalyptic world. The mission that Nemesis Q entrusts to its participants is to find out what caused the destruction of Psyren and thus be able to avoid it, since the plot twits behind the true identity of this planet, is really good and unexpected.
Psyren was a manga with an interesting premise, which unfortunately due to its cancellation could not develop better certain plots and even characters, so that throughout the series some of these characters simply do not appear anymore or appear very little, when previously they had importance in the plot. At the same time, being a manga with many characters and due to the pressure that the author had to give it an end, its ending was also too hasty.
Despite this, Psyren is a manga that knows how to entertain, as I mentioned before, his drawing style is similar to Bleach's, to the Bleach drawing style of his first 100 chapters, so in terms of character design, powers and fights, Psyren stands out a lot, being visually, in some cases, quite good. But as I mentioned, the amount of cancelled mangas in Shonen Jump is much higher than in other manga magazines. Some years later the same author of Psyren made another manga called: Kagamigami, which compared to the previous work, this new manga already presented a new style of drawing, and it didn't look like Bleach, unfortunately, once again, this manga was cancelled. I think I remember that Kagamigami started to be published when Black Clover did it too, so I think that having to compete with another manga (Black Clover) that little by little was having more fans, I opaque Kagamigami until its premature cancellation. Even so and taking up the main theme of this post, Psyren despite his mistakes, is a manga that deserves to be read and even adapted to the anime, because like all good Shonen, it has very good fights and impressive power ups.
