Hola amigos || Hello friends

A few days ago, Doris, my wife, quite spontaneously put on the 1980s film Look Who’s Talking to watch it with Luna. I was in my study, quite absorbed in my work on the computer, when upon hearing that all-too-familiar voice of John Travolta in Spanish, and the thoughts of the baby voiced by none other than Bruce Willis something happened. There was something about it that instantly transported me back to my own childhood, and to be honest, I couldn’t resist popping over to watch bits and pieces of it whilst I was working on the computer.

Luna loved it; my daughter was really pleased with the whole film, but neither I nor Doris actually remembered that there were some slightly risqué scenes. The funny thing is that she’d react with a ‘Yuck!’ and we’d fast-forward through those bits, which weren’t really suitable for an 8-year-old. But Luna certainly loved it! If you’re going to watch it with a young child at home, you’ll need to keep an eye out for the script’s cheeky moments, but apart from that, it’s an excellent film to sit down and watch as a family, take a break from modern cinema, share some genuine laughs and pass on these film classics to the next generation.

On the other hand, seeing John Travolta at that stage in his career and the chemistry he had with Kirstie Alley is simply endearing. Another thing I noticed is that my knees definitely ache or I feel dizzy when I get out of bed too quickly, ha ha ha. The years don’t pass in vain, just like this film. It’s incredible that even today, remembering it makes us feel so nostalgic. I saw myself in Luna, with her skipping about, her laughter, and the same anxiety I used to feel as a child when thinking about little Mikey. Honestly, the way the story begins is already quite funny: James, the taxi driver, comes across Mollie, a woman who’s about to give birth. What’s interesting is that, after going through that experience, James managed to form a bond with the child, becoming a vital source of support for Mollie.

Once again, I’m bringing up a cinema classic and OK, fine, I don’t want to let go of that cherished past, but it’s what I draw strength from every day to remind myself that even after the knee pain, there’s still a child within us all, and as far as I’m concerned, I’ve no problem admitting it. That’s why I always enjoy the beauty of these cinematic surprises like how it managed to bring the three of us together to watch it, to share a past that’s now part of Lunas’s tastes, and well, for us it was a good dose of the eighties…

I imagine many of you have already seen it, whilst plenty of others certainly haven’t. And that’s exactly what I’m here to do: invite those who haven’t seen it to enjoy a classic 80s comedy. And well, as always, this is just my opinion. I invite you to share yours.

    I think it’s beautiful that you get to share your childhood memories with Luna through this film. It feels special to watch your child laugh at the same things that once made you happy. What was Luna's reaction to little Mikey? 😄 Thanks for sharing this film with us. Some movies are more than entertainment; they bring back cherished memories and help create a bond between generations.
