There was a time when I was quite entertained watching almost all the anime produced by one of the Japanese animation studios that I consider to be among the best for its animation quality and beautiful character design, **Kyoto Animation**. Among all the anime they have produced, there was one that was among my favorites: **Hibike! Euphonium**.

If I remember correctly, I watched this anime two or three times in its entirety, and even though it doesn't have the action of other anime I used to watch more often, it has a fairly deep plot, and you can even identify with one or more characters without necessarily being involved in music.

The central plot is music, forming a youth band at school and winning a kind of competition that takes place every year, but at first our protagonists didn't seem very interested in it, except for one of them, **Reina Kousaka**, who was the only one who really felt pain at losing the competition because her band didn't give it their all and didn't care either.

It's quite frustrating to be part of a team or band and be the only one who really wants to take the team far, but no other member takes it seriously and they lose competition after competition, remaining a weak band with no future and no enthusiasm.

As the story progresses, some begin to wake up and take things seriously, even starting to feel excited about becoming the champions of the competition. That's when they begin to practice and give it their all, but the problem arises when giving your best isn't enough.

You can feel how the characters, especially the protagonist, Kumiko Oumae, fall into deep despair because they feel that the instrument they have been playing all their lives is not perfect and is not enough. You feel the pressure of wanting to win, of wanting to excel even once in your life, and the frustration of not being able to play the notes properly, and that's when she begins to understand Kousaka's feelings.

It's a very beautiful anime that invites us to reflect on what we want in our lives and that things don't just happen on their own, but that we have to work hard and not minimize the feelings and dreams of others because sometimes, due to a lack of interest from one member of the team, the hopes and dreams of another can be destroyed.

There is romance, but very little. I wanted to see more of that, but they focused more on the practices and progress that the orchestra members made in order to win the competition. I thought that point was excellent because it shows us what goes on behind the scenes with a great artist. One might think that they have a gift or are enlightened because we only see the results, but no one sees the sacrifice, the frustrations, and the hours of practice giving up your social life that go into a perfect performance.

It's great that this anime shows us what musicians go through. If you're part of the music world, you'll surely identify with these characters who struggle to play a perfect note, which sometimes never comes. But this doesn't only happen to musicians; it happens to everyone who has a hobby, artistic vocation, or sport. You can identify with it anyway if you watch it and think about it from the perspective of what you're passionate about.

I recommend it. It's slow and somewhat calm, but it overflows with endless feelings and motivates you to never give up, even if you don't achieve your goal on the first, second, or third try. What you long for so much will happen when it's meant to happen, and that depends only on you and how committed you are to making it happen.

As an artist, I will tell you that to a certain extent, I feel ideantified, even if I don't play an instrument, the artistic world is a world of a lot of effort and perseverance, where things don't work out well at the beginning and where, as you mention, the right conditions are not in place, either because there isn't a suitable instrument or the necessary materials. I know several artists here who make a living from music, I even work a lot with one of them, Jesús, who dedicates his hours, days, everything to his vocation and my friend is a woman who is passionate about what she does and her life is her piano.

While I don't watch anime, this one in particular calls for reflection on how hard it is to move forward, to compete in a complicated world and the frustrations that can come with that. But I can tell you that with dedication, effort and above all, improving every day to give the highest quality possible, you can succeed in what you love to do. I loved your review and even more the deep theme of this anime. Thank you very much for this work and reflection. Yami hug!🤗

Abrazo Yami!🤗

As a musician, I could identify to some extent with the main characters, when you are under pressure because of competitions. But the piano is a "solitary" instrument, so we usually compete as soloists and not in a band; it is even more frustrating to compete with your friends/colleagues. Actually, I became a lot happier when I stopped participating in competitions and just focused on learning as much as I could, practising, and enjoying it. 😉

Wow, I totally agree with you! KyoAni has a special gift for making anything look beautiful, and Hibike! Euphonium is the perfect example of their quality. You really hit the nostalgia button. You're absolutely right about the frustration; I think that's the magic of this series. Watching Kumiko go from "I don't care" to that iconic scene where she runs crying and shouting "I want to improve" is something that stays with you, because it represents exactly that: the real pain of pushing yourself and feeling like you're not getting there. Reading your post has made me want to rewatch it so badly!
