“Bohemian Rhapsody” es una película biográfica que se estrenó el 24 de octubre de 2018, dirigida por Bryan Singer y terminada por Dexer Flecher que nos muestra el origen de la banda Queen, la creación de sus canciones más exitosas y la historia del extravagante cantante Freddie Mercury desde el inicio de Queen hasta el final de sus días.
La película tiene el propósito de homenajear a Mercury y por ello nos lleva a momentos importantes de su vida en cuanto a sus orígenes, la familia, el amor, sus errores, el éxito y cómo fue el proceso de aceptación de sí mismo en cuanto a su sexualidad.
La trama comienza con Farrok Bulsara un estudiante de origen parsi que se encuentra en un club nocturno viendo a una banda local; al terminar la presentación decide ofrecerse a sí mismo para ser el vocalista principal de la misma después de la partida de su cantante, de ahí en adelante vemos a la banda ahora llamada Queen cantando en pequeños lugares alrededor de Inglaterra hasta que deciden producir su álbum y Farrok Bulsara cambia su nombre a Freddie Mercury.
En esa etapa de la película nos muestran la creación del álbum “A Night at the Opera” y los temas “Love of my life” y “Bohemian Rhapsody” que se convierte en un éxito masivo a pesar de sus criticas debido a su larga duración. Asimismo, uno de los argumentos principales de la película es la sexualidad de Freddie y los errores que le llevan a vivir una etapa oscura llena de drogas y alcohol. La película concluye con una escena donde recrean la presentación de Queen en Live Aid, el 13 de julio de 1985 la cual fue todo un éxito.
Desde hace tiempo quería ver esta película, pero no había tenido la oportunidad de hacerlo, hasta que el fin de semana pasado decidí que sin importar que, la vería. Así que me senté en mi sofá con algunos snacks y obtuve 2 horas y 14 minutos de sentimientos encontrados y nostalgia al escuchar los grandes temas de una de mis bandas favoritas.
“Bohemian Rhapsody” es una cinta divertida y entretenida desde el primer momento. Claramente es más sobre Freddie Mercury que de Queen tal y como su titulo lo indica, y debo decir, después de ver la película que mi opinión sobre él es la de un hombre con un ingenio, creatividad y pasión por la música enorme.
Aunque me pareció que la película contenía situaciones clichés y que omitía muchos eventos y personas importantes de la vida de Freddie; me impresionó el vestuario, la banda sonora y la espléndida actuación de Rami Malek quien logró canalizar la esencia del cantante y en ocasiones, al observar sus gestos, la interacción con los demás personajes y las actuaciones musicales yo de verdad creí estar viendo a Mercury.
Las actuaciones por parte del elenco también estuvo a la altura de sus personajes. El mismo Brian May ha dicho en reiteradas ocasiones que le ha encantado el filme y lo ha defendido a capa y espada de las criticas negativas que ha recibido. Es increible la similitud que lograron captar en los personajes de la pelicula con los reales.
Una de mis partes favoritas fue la grabación de la canción “Bohemian Rhapsody” pues se notaba el ingenio, creatividad y esfuerzo empleado en la creación de la misma. Asimismo, la escena que más me conmovió y me hizo cantar a todo pulmón fue el Live Aid (concierto realizado en el año 1985 con el fin de recaudar fondos para contrarestar la hambruna que sufrían en Somalia y Etiopía), se sentía la emoción y la pasión con la que actuó Rami Malek; definitivamente me sentía parte de ese concierto. ¡Sin duda alguna una maravilla de película!

"Bohemian Rhapsody" is a biographical film released on October 24, 2018, directed by Bryan Singer and finished by Dexer Flecher that shows us the origin of the band Queen, the creation of their most successful songs and the story of flamboyant singer Freddie Mercury from the beginning of Queen to the end of his days.
The film has the purpose of paying tribute to Mercury and therefore takes us to important moments of his life in terms of his origins, family, love, mistakes, success and the process of self-acceptance regarding his sexuality.
The plot begins with Farrok Bulsara a student of Parsi origin who is in a nightclub watching a local band; at the end of the performance he decides to offer himself to be the lead singer of the band after the departure of their singer, from then on we see the band now called Queen singing in small venues around England until they decide to produce their album and Farrok Bulsara changes his name to Freddie Mercury.
At that stage of the film we are shown the creation of the album "A Night at the Opera" and the songs "Love of my life" and "Bohemian Rhapsody" which becomes a massive success despite its criticism due to its long duration. Also, one of the main arguments of the film is Freddie's sexuality and the mistakes that lead him to live a dark period full of drugs and alcohol. The film concludes with a scene where they recreate Queen's Live Aid performance on July 13, 1985, which was a huge success.
I had wanted to see this movie for a long time, but hadn't had the opportunity to do so, until last weekend when I decided that no matter what, I would see it. So I sat down on my couch with some snacks and got 2 hours and 14 minutes of mixed feelings and nostalgia listening to the great songs of one of my favorite bands.
It is a fun and entertaining film from the very beginning. It is clearly more about Freddie Mercury than it is about Queen and I must say, after watching the film, that my opinion of him is that of a man with enormous wit, creativity and passion for music.
Although I felt that the film contained cliché situations and omitted many important events and people in Freddie's life, I was impressed by the costumes, the soundtrack and the splendid performance of Rami Malek who managed to channel the essence of the singer and at times, when watching his gestures, the interaction with the other characters and the musical performances, I really believed I was watching Mercury.
The performances by the cast also lived up to their characters. Brian May himself has repeatedly said that he loved the film and has defended it against the negative criticism it has received. It is incredible the similarity that they managed to capture in the characters of the film with the real ones.
One of my favorite parts was the recording of the song "Bohemian Rhapsody" because you could see the ingenuity, creativity and effort that went into its creation. Also, the scene that moved me the most and made me sing at the top of my lungs was the Live Aid (concert held in 1985 to raise funds to counteract the famine suffered in Somalia and Ethiopia), you could feel the emotion and passion with which Rami Malek acted; I definitely felt part of that concert, without a doubt a wonderful movie!
