Who has not watched Kirikou when they were a kid? 😀
Hello everyone, welcome to my blog here on Scrobblelife. Today I want to share my review of the movie Kirikou and the Sorceress. I watched this movie a very long time ago, and I can still remember that Kirikou was one of the movies my mom normally put on for us when we were kids. I really enjoyed watching it. So today, I was looking for a movie to make a review on, and I suddenly remembered Kirikou. I decided to watch it again and share my review with my amazing friends here. Watching it again really brought back some childhood memories.
Kirikou was a boy full of wisdom and knowledge. He was very smart, and what made him different was that he could already talk while he was still inside his mother's womb. His mother was always surprised because she could not understand how a baby that had not even come out of her womb could already be talking to her. She even started wondering if she was really carrying a baby in her stomach. One thing Kirikou said to his mother while he was still inside his mother stomach really surprised me. He said,
**"Mother, bring me to the world"**
His mother gave birth to Kirikou, and immediately he came into the world, he went straight into the water and bathed himself. He did not even hesitate. After that, he asked his mother, "Mother, where is my dad?" His mother was so shocked. How can a baby that was just born already be asking about his father and talking like a grown person? She started having a conversation with him because he was asking her so many questions, and she kept answering him.
The people in the village really loved Kirikou because of the way he talked. They enjoyed having conversations with him because he talked like a very intelligent grown-up. He was not behaving like a normal little baby at all. He was so smart and intelligent that everyone in the village loved him. Whenever children and elderly people gathered together with Kirikou, they enjoyed talking with him because he always had something interesting to say.
There was also a wicked sorceress called Karaba. She was very evil, wicked and heartless. She made the people in the village suffer and live in fear. She had dried up their water source, and the villagers were struggling because of it. Anyone who tried to go against her was putting their life in danger. Everyone in the village was scared of Karaba because they knew how powerful she was.
There was a time when the children of the village were playing, and Karaba decided to put an evil tree there to attract them. Immediately the children saw the tree, they all ran towards it and climbed on it. But they did not know that the tree was dangerous. Suddenly, the tree started moving with them. It carried them away, and the children started crying and shouting for someone to come and save them.
Kirikou saw what was happening and immediately started looking for a way to save the children. He did not know what to do at first, but then he saw his grandmother preparing a cutlass in the fire. Kirikou quietly went to her and greeted her as if nothing was happening. Before she knew what was happening, he took the cutlass and ran away with it to save the children. This little boy ran like a flash because he was determined to save their lives. When he reached the tree, he started cutting it down, but he was too small, so he told the children to shake the tree because it would make it easier for him to cut it down. This was how he finally cut down the tree and the children came out safely.
The children were so happy that Kirikou had saved their lives. They started rejoicing and dancing because they were finally safe. They even started singing songs for him, saying that Kirikou was their friend, that he was brilliant and that he was wise. Kirikou also joined them and started dancing with them. This part was really nice because you could see how much the children loved and appreciated him.
There was another time when Kirikou saw a hole, and something told him to enter inside and find out what was there. He entered the hole and went deeper inside until he discovered a cow with a very big stomach filled with water. The village was already suffering because Karaba had dried up their water source, so they were struggling to get water. Kirikou saw that the water was inside the cow and started thinking about what he could do to solve the problem.
Kirikou ran away and looked for a cutlass. After he got the cutlass, he ran back to the hole and cut open the stomach of the cow. Suddenly, the water exploded out and started rushing everywhere. The people in the village were so happy and excited. They started playing and dancing because it had been a long time since they had water in their stream.
But while everyone was celebrating, Kirikou's mother started looking for him because she could not find her son. After the water stopped coming out, Kirikou suddenly fell out of the hole and landed outside. His mother was shocked when she saw that he was not breathing. She picked him up and put him on her lap, but unfortunately, Kirikou did not wake up.
All the people in the village gathered when they heard that it was Kirikou who had brought the water back and that he was not breathing. Even people who were not there before came running. Some of them started crying because Kirikou was their friend. The children were also crying and singing for him. It was a very emotional moment because nobody knew if Kirikou would survive. Then suddenly, Kirikou coughed while lying on his mother's lap and woke up. Everyone became so excited. They started singing and dancing again because Kirikou was alive.
When Karaba heard the sound of the villagers celebrating, she became very angry. She sent her messenger to find out why the villagers were singing and dancing around the stream. When they told her that the villagers were celebrating because of a little boy called Kirikou, she became even more angry. She ordered them to find the boy and bring him to her. Knowing how wicked Karaba was, Kirikou could have been in serious danger if she caught him.
Kirikou had already heard about how wicked Karaba was. His mother told him about her, and Kirikou decided to meet his grandfather. His grandfather explained to him how dangerous Karaba was and how powerful she had become. Kirikou then asked his grandfather what he could do to make her stop all the wicked things she was doing. His grandfather told him a secret. There was something connected to Karaba's back, and it was connected to the reason she had become so powerful and wicked. If that thing could be removed, she would lose her powers. But nobody was brave enough to get close to her because everyone was scared of her.
Immediately after Kirikou heard this, he decided that he would stop everything. He told his grandfather that he would remove the thing from Karaba so that the villagers could finally live peacefully.
Kirikou started digging deep into the ground so he could find a way to reach Karaba without being seen. He kept digging until he got close to where she was. At some point, Karaba noticed that someone was trying to enter her territory, so she sent her messengers to check. When they discovered that it was Kirikou, she decided to deal with him herself. Kirikou was still inside the ground, trying to reach her, while she sent dangerous things to stop him. But Kirikou kept surviving and finally escaped without being killed.
After Kirikou finished digging, he secretly appeared in Karaba's environment without her knowing. He was watching her, but she did not know where he was. Then, immediately, he jumped directly onto her back. As he was falling, he grabbed the object on her back with his teeth and pulled it out. Karaba screamed so loudly that everyone in the village could hear her. Her scream was so painful that it seemed like the whole place was shaking.
Immediately after Kirikou removed the object, everything started changing. The grass started coming alive, beautiful things started appearing everywhere, and the whole place suddenly looked fresh and beautiful again. Kirikou had finally freed Karaba, and she was no longer the wicked person she had been before. She asked Kirikou what he wanted, and he told her that he wanted to marry her. Karaba told him that he was too small and too young for her to marry him.
Then Kirikou asked her to kiss him. Immediately she kissed him, something amazing happened. Kirikou suddenly became a tall and grown-up man. Karaba was absolutely surprised because, all of a sudden, the little Kirikou she knew had turned into a big and grown man right in front of her.
And this was how Kirikou and Karaba became a couple. When the people in the village saw Karaba with a grown man beside her, they started running away because they thought she was still the wicked sorceress they knew before. They did not know that she had already been freed.
The funny part was that nobody could believe that the grown man beside Karaba was Kirikou because he had suddenly become so big. When they told his mother that a man was claiming to be her son Kirikou, she came closer, touched his face and immediately recognized him. She told them that he was her son. It was really Kirikou.
For me, this is one of those childhood movies that still feels special even after many years. Watching it again brought back memories of when my mom used to put it on for us when we were kids. What I enjoyed most about Kirikou is that he was very small, but he was never afraid to face problems that even grown people were scared of. He was smart, brave and always looking for a way to help people.
I also enjoyed the way the movie showed that sometimes the person who looks small can be the one who makes the biggest difference. Kirikou saved the children, helped bring water back to the village and finally found a way to free Karaba. That is why I still find this movie interesting even after watching it again many years later.
I really enjoyed watching Kirikou and the Sorceress again, and I am happy that I remembered this movie when I was looking for something to review. It really took me back to my childhood, and I enjoyed every moment of it.
