I stumbled upon Descendants: Wicked Wonderland on the movie box, and I watched it because it was a Disney movie. Different people have different opinions on the movie; meanwhile, I will be sharing mine with you.
Descendants: Wicked Wonderland was released in 2026. It was written by Tamara Chestna, Dan Frey, and Ru Sommer.
The movie was directed by Kimmy Gatewood, starring Awkwafina, Liamani Segura, and Kyle Cantrell. It runs for 1h 35m, and the genres are fantasy, musical, and adventure.
The film follows Red, the daughter of the Queen of Hearts, and Chloe, the daughter of Cinderella, who together use their time-traveling pocket watch to change the past and the present.
But everything that tampers with nature has potential consequences. Maddox Hatter became the victim of circumstance and was transformed into the villain, and his son Max was left in between.
Being ignorant of what Red and Chloe did, he sided with them to defeat his father, who was doing everything possible to retrieve the time machine in order to take vengeance and satisfy his evil desire of becoming lord and master of Wonderland.
Max eventually discovered what Red and Chloe did and returned to side with his father, but because Red and Chloe did what they did for a good reason, their kindness eventually brought Max on their side and solved the problem on the ground once again.
The movie actually brought back a lot of memories from my childhood. The background of Wonderland as portrayed in the movie was a semi-heaven.
The flowers and creatures full of wonders, being capable of being either harmful or nice, were captivating.
The toy-like armies invented by Maddox to distract Red and her friends on their quest were also something that won my heart.
Overall, the movie was nice; the inclusion of music was cool too, but I didn't enjoy most of the songs. For the first time in my life, I didn't like a Disney song. The kind of melody in the songs wasn't just my type.
At some points, the story seemed to be uneven and stuck in one place. So much time was spent trying to retrieve the pocket time-traveling watch; I think that time could have been used to explore the other side of the movie.
The ending went well for me; instead of terminating Maddox, he was captured. This implies that violence is not always the best way to resolve conflicts.
I also like the ending because of how every conflict was reconciled. Maddox and his son got back together. Even though Max now understands the evil intentions of his dad, he still loves him and doesn't want them to destroy him.
Meanwhile, there is definitely going to be a sequel to the movie because Red’s sister, Pink, discovered something that obviously looks like another problem but carelessly took it and kept it in her treasured box.
I will recommend this movie to those who love adventure movies; it really explores that genre, and children can watch this too; it's interesting and safe.
