I was lucky because when I decided to watch it, it wasn't that kind of movie and although it took me time to watch all of it due to my tight schedule, I enjoyed it.
Just Play Dead was released in 2026. The movie was written by Dan Gordon and directed by Martin Campbell. It stars Samuel L. Jackson, Eva Green, and Eoin Macken.

Just Play Dead follows Jack Wolfe (Samuel L. Jackson), a rich and smart criminal who plans to fake his death to avoid being caught by the government and to also take a huge sum of money as insurance payout.
His wife, Nora Wolfe ( Eva Green), was his tool; he plans to frame her and her lover, Chad, for his death to achieve his goal, but Nora has her plans too; she intends to kill him for real and take the money for herself.
Things got complicated when Dani (Eoin Macken) came into the picture and fell in love with Nora. Jealousy and love made him do a lot of crazy things, but it also pushed him into discovering what Mr Wolfe was up to.
The movie is about deceit, betrayal, love, and games. Two couples were looking forward to outsmarting each other for money.
Nora was playing games and was smart. She wanted to use Dani’s weakness, which is his love, to make him commit a crime even as a detective, but he was quite smart.
It was unfortunate that naive Chad fell victim and ended up as a scapegoat. A child who deals with elders would eventually receive the cane meant for elders.
For me, the movie was quite fine. Samuel L. Jackson did well with his role as Mr Wolfe; his crazy taunting sense of humor was mind-blowing.
He also showed remarkable wisdom and smartness while luring his wife Nora to plan his death, which is commendable.
Eva Green was also good at her role. She played the role of a cheating wife who is after nothing but her personal interest. Her willingness to go to any lengths to deceive any man who foolishly allows himself to be used as a tool to get what she wants was well played.
I must also compliment the beautiful island background; it was quite captivating.
However, I find something off about the movie; the storyline doesn't really satisfy me. Two couples living for years can't just wake up overnight and decide to want to frame each other in order to walk away with money.
Something must have happened, and that's where they missed it in the story. A scene revealed that Mr Wolfe and Nora loved each other at one point; in fact, he came for her rescue when she committed murder.
They should have made us understand whether it was all fake and he just wanted to use her to get what he wanted or not.
Their love story should have been included a little so that we can understand whether it was just lies or love was in the picture before things went south.
I was also not pleased with Chad's performance; I don't know if it was just me that didn't like his excessive drug role. It made him look extremely stupid, like he was just like a puppet who was being controlled; the foolishness was too much- even a child wouldn't be that dumb.
The crime and investigative part of the movie was small, so much attention was given to Nora and her infidelity rather than exploring other things. Even when I expected some crimes to spice up the movie, nothing much was given.
The end left us in suspense. Mr Wolfe succeeded in achieving his goal; he faked his death and took the money.
Nora ends up in jail, but Dani discovers that Wolfe is still alive and is working towards getting Nora out of jail.
This makes it incomplete. I reckon there should be a sequel to this; nevertheless, they should work on the storyline and also come up with something better than this one.
I will recommend the movie to those interested in watching movies about lies, crimes, and selfish interests.
