Finally, after two years of waiting, Amazon distributed this movie to be streamed on their site. As a fan of Sylvester Stallone, I have been waiting to see this movie and to also experience Stallone acting as a superhero despite his age which I find impressive. Honestly, I must say that I enjoyed the movie majorly because of Stallone and at the same time I wish that the producing crew had done better.
Samaritan is not the typical type of superhero movie that you are used to like the MCU or DC. This is a unique superhero movie that is not based on MCU or DC comic characters. It is a fantastic standalone superhero that is simple, with nothing spectacular to it but classic and expectations of a sequel or spin-off.
Samaritan (2022) is an American superhero film that was co-distributed by Amazon Studios and United Artists Releasing. This movie was written by Bragi F. Schut and directed by Julius Avery. It is a superhero movie in which its story was written in a different and new way. It stars Sylvester Stallone as the main character Joe, Javon Walton as Sam, Sophia Tatum, Moises Arias, Dascha Polanco as Sam's mother, and Martin Starr. The movie revolves around Sam who is being raised by his mother alone, living in a rough neighborhood as he tries to survive within his neighborhood, he suspects that the old man (Joe) who lives across his apartment may be the superhero, Samaritan whom he adores.

The movie starts with a prologue voiceover, which tells us the story of a pair of brothers, twins, who lived in Granite City. These brothers were superman and antagonists against each other. Samaritan and Nemesis were their names. Samaritan fought for good and justice while nemesis fought for disruption and hatred against his brother. Out of rage, Nemesis builds a hanmer in which he pours all his rage into it. This hammer was said to bring to both of them. So Nemesis tricks his brother Samaritan into the city power plant and during their confrontation, things did go well as it resulted in their deaths. But rumor still has it that Samaritan is still alive.

After the prologue, fastwarded to twenty-five years later, Sam, a thirteen years old boy who was helping his mother with their financial crisis, gets involved with his neighborhood gangs. Things didn't go well at first, because the job he was asked to wasn't done but Sam was able to get noticed by the leader of the gang (Cyrus) because of his penalties and get rewarded with $110. Afterward, the gang who gave Sam the job came after him, but coincidentally, Joe (Samaritan) comes to his rescue and fights the gang members off displaying superhuman strength. Sam's suspicions grew more.

On the other hand, Cyrus went in search of Nemesis's hand-crafted hanmer for his own nefarious hidden agenda. Finally, after so much searching, he located the hammer in an evidence room. Meanwhile, Sam went to confront Joe about his identity as the Samaritan, but he denies that he is the Samaritan as Sam suspected. Then an unfortunate accident occurs, Joe gets brutally hit by a car and his body heals before Sam's eyes. From there Sam and Joe built a friendship that later led to an unforeseen disaster.
My Review And Rating.
It is great to see Stallone back on the screen after a long while and see him perform as a superhero at his age, I think he is awesome. Watching this movie made me realize that Hollywood can actually give us a superhero movie that is more realistic than the superhero movies we have around.
Talking about the actors in this movie, I will start with Stallone whose performance I find amazing and I was impressed. Sam did a fantastic job with his role, his character was light-free and not intense. There was a little bit of humor with him which I appreciate and I think with more experience, Sam will do well in the industry. The villain (Cyrus) was not interesting and entertaining to watch at all, even with too much screen time dedicated to him that was uncalled for. He wasn't fierce and his role felt like a joke to me. I feel Samaritan deserved a more worthy villain and not Cyrus. All other supporting characters were not really felt during the movie that the audience could easily forget they ever existed.
The plot was well written but had some obvious loopholes in it that made the storyline somehow confusing, slow Paced, and not that appealing. For example, some scenes were not arranged properly to fit into the flow of the movie and lastly, the draw-out of the final fight was unrealistic, and not properly shot and directed. Some of the flashbacks done at the end should have been done at the beginning to properly introduce the movie mysteriously and let's not forget, the plot was predictable.
The technology used in this movie is the worst I have ever seen. The CGI was that good which made some scenes not interesting to the viewers and which also made me think I was watching some old movie. The action scenes were well-directed is one of the things I like in this movie. The scenes were interesting and a little brutal. The stunts were amazing and fun to watch.
In conclusion, if you are a fan of Sylvester Stallone, you will enjoy it. I did enjoy the movie because it was good to see him on the screen in action. Rating this movie, I will give 3.5 out of 5 stars. If you haven't seen it, do watch it as soon as possible.
