It's been a while since I watched a movie and I could not help but shed tears watching the scenes. I am more into action movies but watching this movie reminds me of what happens in society. Although the movie was kinda traumatizing because I kinda relate the whole scene with what is happening in our society today but it was a good movie.
About The Movie
Star goes to a party with her friend Kenya and returns with her best friend, childhood friend, and first crush Khalil after a gunshot disturbed the peace of their party.
While driving home, they were stopped by a white police officer for failing to adhere to the rules of the road. The officer orders Khalil, to come. down from the car while he should also roll down the window and turn off the music but Khalil disagrees with the officer, only after much plea from Star before he decides to do what he was asked to do.
He gets down from the car, the officer gets his license and asks him to keep his hands on the roof while he checks his paper but Khalil stubbornly reaches into the car to check on Starr and to get his hairbrush.
The officer thinking he was about to get a gun brings out his gun and shot him to death. As Starr mourns over Khalil, the officer realizes that he was holding a hairbrush, not a gun. He only gets to realize that the boy was only about to pick his hairbrush and check up on the girl inside the car when he saw the brush lay by his side.
Starr mourns for her best friend and the death of her two childhood friends who died before her eyes became torn in Starr's flesh as she was confused about what to do and how you make things right.
Khalil's killing becomes a national news story and for fear of her daughter's safety and health, her parents kick against Starr coming out to say anything about the crime of the scene she saw. Even after she accepted to talk in court against the office, her identity as the witness was kept secret from everyone outside their family including her two best friends Hailey Grant and Maya Yang, and her boyfriend Chris.
King who happens to be a brutal drug lord threatens Starr and her father Maverick after he realizes that Starr was the only person with Khalil on the day of his death and that she was going to stand as a witness in the jury court
Her last born Sekani witnesses the scene of his father being molested by police and weeps what they never knew was that the scene was registered in the heart of the young boy.
King and his gang set Maverick store on fire with Starr and Seven who happens to be his stepson on fire but they were rescued on time by their father.
King and his gang come out of hiding and faces Starr's father, a gun battle was about to emerge but as Maverick tries to get his gun put, he realizes that his younger son Sekani had already gotten the gun and was aiming it right at King.
The police arrive at the scene and Starr gets into the middle and tries to dissolve the situation. King and his gang were arrested after the community and the people around testified of his crime.
Starr promises to keep Khalil's memory alive and to continue her advocacy against police violence.

My Thought I was thinking the policeman who shot Khalil will be apprehended at the end of the movie but nothing of such was shown or said.
The characters performed their roles perfectly well and I must commend Starr's father, he played his role well and I admired his charisma in those roles.
