Have you seen the story of Pinocchio? Well I have and in many forms, the Disney version from almost a century ago, the robotic version or Pinocchio 3000, Pinocchio from '96 among many other versions. But one thing they all have in common is that they tell the same version over and over again (of course in different ways) but it is the same, a man who lost his son makes a puppet, a fairy gives him life and he goes to school, but he strays and ends up in trouble which his father saves him and they live happily. But seeing the same plot over and over again you feel it's more of the same, even the 2022 Disney released is so boring that just by watching the first few minutes you know how it will end so after 10 minutes of watching it I quit.
¿Has visto la historia de Pinocho? Pues yo sí y de muchas formas, la versión de Disney de hace casi un siglo, la versión robótica o pinocho 3000, Pinocho del 96 entre muchas otras versiones. Pero algo que tienen en común todas estas es que cuentan una y otra vez la misma versión (claro de diferentes maneras) Pero es lo mismo, un hombre que perdió a su hijo hace una marioneta un hada le da vida y va a la escuela, pero se desvía y termina en problemas el cual su padre lo salva y viven felices. Pero el ver la misma trama una y otra vez sientes que es más de lo mismo, incluso la del 2022 que lanzo Disney es tan aburrida que solo con ver los primeros minutos ya sabes cómo terminara as que luego de 10 minutos de verla la deje.
So I did not have much faith to see the version of Guillermo del toro, I thought it was more of the same but this time with a style of image as the Corpse Bride, since this film is StopMotion style. But seeing this version which I repeat is much better than Disney's, I am impressed to see how Guillermo del toro adapted this story and with his personal seal gave it a realistic image of what Pinocchio is, also answered many doubts I had about this story, as well as leaving us real life lessons and does not try to be progressive. So in this review I will talk about the plot and a sincere opinion of this film that I consider to be one of the best works of this Latin American director.
Así que no tenía mucha fe de ver la versión de Guillermo del toro, pensaba que era más de lo mismo pero esta vez con un estilo de imagen como la de el cadáver de la novia, ya que esta película es de estilo StopMotion. Pero al ver esta versión que repito es mucho mejor que la de Disney, me impresiona ver como Guillermo del toro adapto esta historia y con su sello personal le dio una imagen realista de lo que es pinocho, además contesto muchas dudas que tenia de esta historia, así como nos deja verdaderas enseñanzas de vida y no trata de ser progresista. Así que en esta reseña hablare de la trama y una opinión sincera de esta película que considero que fue uno de los mejores trabajos de este director latinoamericano.
The plot begins with Geppetto and his son Carlo in a difficult time for humanity as the second world war was going on, as this story is based in Mussolini's fascist Italy, I love this version because it explores a little more Geppetto's relationship with his son and explains why it hurt him to lose him so much. Because he had lost his wife, his son was all he had and because the boy brightened his day he taught him many things, but with a bombing of the village Carlo dies and geppetto is devastated, so much so that he immerses himself in alcohol to be able to forget (this detail seems to me quite realistic since it feels more real the pain of geppetto) and he laments for prayers to give him back his son, one day while he was drunk at the grave of his children years later, he resigns himself to that someone listens to him and decides to build his own son, and it is there where he cuts a pine tree and carves Pinocchio. A curious fact and that Pinocchio is so called because it is carved from a pine tree I came to understand that with this movie.
La trama comienza con Geppetto y su hijo Carlo en una época difícil para la humanidad ya que la segunda guerra mundial estaba transcurriendo, as que esta historia se basa en la Italia fascista de Mussolini, esta versión me encanta porque explora un poco más la relación de geppetto con su hijo y explica porque le dolió perderlo tanto. Y es que como había perdido a su esposa, su hijo era todo lo que tenía y como el niño le alegraba el día le enseñaba muchas cosas, pero con un bombardeo al pueblo Carlo muere y geppetto queda desbastado, tanto que se sumerge en el alcohol para poder olvidar (este detalle me parece bastante realista ya que se siente más real el dolor de geppetto) y se lamente por plegarias que le devuelvan a su hijo, un día mientras estaba ebrio en la tumba de su hijos años después, se resigna a que alguien lo escuche y decide construir a su propio hijo, y es allí donde corta un pino y talla a pinocho. Un dato curioso y que pinocho se llama así porque es tallado de un pino vine a entender eso con esta pelicula.
On that night a mystical creature (they don't say if it's a fairy) looks at geppetto's enormous sadness and gives life to pinocchio so he can give geppetto his joy back. the next day geppetto wakes up and kills pinocchio because he thinks he's a creature of satan, but little by little he adapts to this wooden boy. The adventure develops when pinocchio wants to go to school, but the villain intercepts him and convinces him to become famous and makes him sign a contract, but as he deceives him and gets lost in Italy, geppetto distressed goes out to look for him and ends up in an adventure, while pinocchio goes through more adventures and life lessons that will mark him forever, if you want to know what it is about I invite you to see it and enjoy this amazing adaptation :D
En esa noche una criatura mística (no dicen si es un hada) mira la enorme tristeza de geppetto y le da vida a pinocho para que le devuelva la alegría a geppetto. al día siguiente geppetto se despierta y casa mata a pinocho porque cree que es una criatura de satanás, pero poco a poco se adapta a este niño de madera. La aventura se desarrolla cuando pinocho quiere ir a la escuela, pero el villano lo intercepta y lo convence de hacerse famoso y lo hace firmar un contrato, pero como lo engaña y se pierde por Italia, geppetto angustiado sale a buscarlo y termina en una aventura, mientras que pinocho pasa por más aventuras y por enseñanzas de vida que lo marcaran para siempre, si quieres saber de qué trata te invito a verla y disfrutes de esta increíble adaptación :D
Now talking about the highlights of this film is that it was filmed entirely with StopMotion a film technique quite extensive and requires a lot of patience but that results in a real gem, in fact, Tim Burton is one of the filmmakers with more recognized works using this film technique. According to some internet portals, this film took approximately 15 years to be recorded and the precise shots took months to be photographed, I also read that a minute of film took 1 month to be recorded due to the large number of photos.
Ahora hablando de los aspectos sobresalientes de esta película es que se grabó totalmente con StopMotion una técnica de cine bastante extensa y que requiere de mucha paciencia pero que da como resultado una verdadera joya, De hecho, Tim Burton es uno de los cineastas con más trabajos reconocidos usando esta técnica de cine. Segun algunos portales de internet, esta película se tardó aproximadamente 15 años en poder ser grabada y es que las tomas precisas duraban meses en ser fotografiadas, leí tambien que un minuto de película duraba 1 mes para grabarse debido a la gran cantidad de fotos.
In addition, another thing I love about this version, is the great expansion of the story, since they include as I said the setting of the second world war, Benito Mussoliniana appears in the film and you can see how nationalism for the war and the homeland is something strongly embodied in the Italian population. The fact that children are sent to war is seen in the film, even an Italian general seeing that Pinocchio has a unique ability decides that Geppetto should send his son to war to give honor to the homeland. Another aspect of the movie that I liked a lot and in which it is strongly reflected is about life and death, you see a lot of suffering when Carlo dies, but geppetto clings to life in the hope of seeing him again. Very different from Pinocchio who, with his ability, will have to watch life and death pass in front of him.
Además, otra cosa que me encanta de esta versión, es la gran ampliación de la historia, ya que incluyen como dije la ambientación de la segunda guerra mundial, aparece Benito mussoliniana la película y se ve como el nacionalismo por la guerra y la patria es algo fuertemente plasmado en la población italiana. Ya que el que los niños sean mandados a la guerra se ve en la película, incluso un general italiano al ver que pinocho tiene una habilidad única decide que geppetto debe mandar a su hijo a la guerra para darle honra a la patria. Otro aspecto de la película que me gustó mucho y en el cual se ve fuertemente reflejado es sobre la vida y la muerte, se ve mucho sufrimiento cuando Carlo muere, pero geppetto se aferra a la vida con la esperanza de verlo de nuevo. Muy diferente a lo que es pinocho que con su habilidad tendrá que ver de lado como la vida y la muerte pasa frente a él.
And one last thing that stands out in the whole movie much more than in other adaptations, is the love of Geppetto for his son, because in this one he gets upset by all the bad behavior of Pinocchio and even says very ugly things that a father should not say to his son, but as in the same movie they explain, that happens when they are under a lot of pressure, but parents always love their children. Geppetto shows that every minute of the movie and until the end, even when he feels he is losing Pinocchio he gets desperate and asks for help to save him, even though his own life is at risk.
Y una última cosa que destaca en toda la película mucho más que en otras adaptaciones, es el amor de geppetto por su hijo, ya que en este si se molesta por todo el mal comportamiento de pinocho e incluso le dice cosas muy feas que un padre no debería decirle a su hijo, pero como en la misma película explican, eso pasa cuando están bajo mucha presión, pero los padres siempre aman a sus hijos. Geppetto muestra eso a cada minuto de la película y hasta el final, incluso cuando siente que pierde a pinocho se desespera y pide ayuda para salvarlo, aunque su propia vida este en riesgo.
So this adaptation is unique and superior to all the others, it feels very real and authentic and you can easily identify with the plot, plus it is very close to what is reality, and reflects how the events that occurred in the world affected the lives of people as did the war with the life of Geppetto. So if you want to see this movie I invite you to do it, I know you will not regret it, and although there may be some who think it is overrated, in my opinion it is much better than the one Disney made. Así que esta adaptación es única y superior que todas las demás, se siente muy real y autentica y fácilmente te puedes identificar con la trama, además se acerca mucho a lo que es la realidad, y refleja como los sucesos que ocurrieron en el mundo afectaron la vida de las personas como hizo la guerra con la vida de geppetto. Así que si deseas vere esta película te invito a hacerlo sé que no te arrepentirás, y aunque tal vez haya algunos que piensen que está sobrevalorada, pues en mi opinión es mucho mejor que la que hizo Disney.
