Saw franchise is all about shock value. The audiences hope to be surprised by the deadly traps of abundant gore producers as well as the nihil twist of logic. In other words, media escapism is perfect. There is a proven patent formula that attracts fans, but awareness raises a modification to breathe fresh air. As a result, a new team was appointed. The director's seat is occupied by The Spierig Brothers (Daybreakers, Predestination), while Josh Stolberg and Peter Goldfinger write the screenplay. The result is ironic, had a working title Saw: Legacy, Jigsaw actually destroy the heritage of its predecessor.
A misdirected modification has been posted since the first moment. Instead of a brutal trap, the film opted for a minimally action-oriented tension containing police and criminal chases named Edgar Munsen (Josiah Black). Edgar implies he is trapped in a Jigsaw game, even though John Kramer (Tobin Bell) has been killed 10 years ago. In an interview, The Spierig Brothers stated Jigsaw would not be as fierce as his old installment. A proven error in the opening then continues when the prime trap finally emerges. Five victims were chained in one room and had to escape before the chainsaws cut their bodies.
The trap seems lazy for two reasons. First, the resemblance to one of the Saw II games. Second, the minimal risk that must be taken to escape. No part of the body needs to be sacrificed, just enough blood. Even when the first life floated, the audience was given the chance to watch it. Related gore, there are only two moments able to appear attractive. Unfortunately, one trimmed the sensor scissors, another new one at the end. The trap "rain sharp objects" is quite intense, but again the impact is too tame. Why dropped dozens of weapons if the victim suffered only minor puncture wounds? Jigsaw is a shy porn torture, since the second film, Saw has shifted from a brutal psychological horror to a pure treat of torture. However, the inner conflict always accompanies dilemma when victims are forced to make sacrifices in order to survive. The situation leads to the tension of audiences who are encouraged to "what do I do if I experience something similar?". Jigsaw also disarmed the power, in which some games especially early in the duration did not require similar sacrifices, or failed to bring the audience to understand the price to pay due to hasty executions. The new Jigsaw's tricky exams were truly felt when John Kramer appeared, confirming Tobin Bell still has a magical aura as the serial killer, As always, beyond the main game, there is a mystery search. This time around Detective Halloran's investigation (Callum Keith Rennie) involving a forensic officer, Logan Nelson (Matt Passmore) and his assistant, Eleanor (Hannah Emily Anderson). Investigations involving conflicts are mutually suspicious, then a twist that tries to recreate surprising surprises as a feature of this franchise, but fails to achieve goals due to familiarity with one of the previous films. If you are a fan of Saw or at least have watched all the titles, it is easy to guess the direction of the plot. The problem is, the twist in Saw is the kind that emphasizes the effects of shock rather than the foresight spreading the seeds.
Mistaken in determining which one needs to be changed and maintained is Jigsaw's biggest drawback. The result is fatal. Longing post six-period Halloween filled with sleep producer named Paranormal Activity undetected. When the Hello Zepp iconic theme song made by Charlie Clouser did not sound, as usual, there is obviously an acute mistake in Jigsaw that is worth pairing with Saw V and Saw 3D as the nadir point of its franchise.
