Since the beginning of its creation, Cloverfield is about luring audience interest through mystery, both related stories and marketing strategies. Her first movie plot was closed until the day of broadcast. 10 Cloverfield Lane has just announced its title two months before its release. The Cloverfield Paradox is trying to outperform its two predecessors by making a surprise release. When the public awaits the appearance of Julius Onah's film trailer claimed on the sidelines of the Super Bowl, a surprise comes. Not just a trailer, Netflix announced that The Cloverfield Paradox will air later that day after the Super Bowl. All-around, Talk about impromptu, the path also moves so. Opened the chats of married couples, Michael (Roger Davies) and Ava (Gugu Mbatha-Raw) on the assignment of Ava to the space station, suddenly we are immediately thrown into the middle of mission execution that goes awry. From a quiet night on Earth, instantly jumps into the hubbub of space. Nil gradation in transition, as if there is a missing piece. It happens repeatedly. Either because the Onah neglected to take the connecting footage, Oren Uziel script writing that jumped rough, or the inability of the trio editor to stitch the scene neatly.

There is a fourth possibility, that is the overhaul of the end of the breakdown of the foundation of the story, which had to be done in order to make this film part of the Cloverfield series. Similar to 10 Cloverfield Lane which originally was another story called The Cellar, the original movie God Particle is not dominating as Cloverfield sequel. New adjustments are made in the middle of production. The basic premise remains the same, about a group of astronauts who are trying to create an infinite source of energy in space stations to overcome Earth's energy crisis. After multiple failures, the experiment finally succeeded, until they found that the Earth had disappeared.

Interesting mystery, even without Cloverfield. Although the plot continues to move in a mess, a stack of consistent anomalies sparks curiosity. It's like watching The Twilight Zone with an increasingly bizarre story getting fun, no matter how big the mystery betrays common sense. Not to mention the ability of Julius Onah to build intensity. The director is not a reliable storyteller, but his way of describing the chaotic situation effectively draws attention to the reluctance to turn the focus away from the screen. Also, Bear McCreary's musical music often echoes an alarming emergency alarm.

But it's hard to deny, the connection with Cloverfield, including some easter eggs that will provoke discussion, able to keep the enthusiasm for the film survived, at least not completely disappear, especially so entering the mediocre half-hearted. This is the risk of a story with a stack of mysteries that can be answered through one conclusion. Once that conclusion is revealed, the following peculiarities are no longer meaningful. The film was left to leave the conflict a matter of perfunctory effort of the remaining astronauts to return home.

Maybe we will never know what the original version of God Particle is. It could be that the decision to link Cloverfield to destroy his narrative potential. Alternatively, the connection adds spice to generic science fiction treats that will be so easily forgotten. At the very least, this movie has access to include a cool shot cover. The audience will tend to talk about the shot rather than the fact that the ranks of the first-class cast of Daniel Brühl, Chris O'Dowd, David Oyelowo, until Zhang Ziyi are wasted.
