Review Film: The Lego Ninjago Movie (2017)

Review by @film-trail · 2997d · of The Lego Ninjago Movie

Ninja is cool, so is mecha. When Lego, which in fact also favoured combine the two, the guarantee of success is obvious. Bore more than 100 sets and seven seasons of Lego Ninjago television series: The Masters of Spinjitzu is the real proof. Talk to the commercial side, widescreen adaptation as the third instalment of this lego film series feels like going to have the same fate. While the matter of quality, both The Lego Movie and The Lego Batman Movie are both classy, especially thanks to the clever humour play the word, tucking popular culture, to a meta joke. Maintained by three directors plus six screenwriters, The Lego Ninjago Movie strives to imitate the achievements of its predecessors, That's what it looked like from the first minute when showing real people in the form of an antique shop owner (Jackie Chan) who told the story of the heroism of Lloyd Garmadon (Dave Franco) to a boy. Unless giving Chan a stage and implying a cat's involvement, the substance of this opening scene is questionable. After entering the animation world, the festivities immediately greeted the mecha of the sixth ninja, Lloyd, Kai (Michael Pena), Jay (Kumail Nanjiani), His (Abbi Jacobson), Cole (Fred Armisen) and Zane (Zach Woods) fought against Lord Garmadon's army (Justin Theroux).

Chaos and cringe similar but without equal power. Not just a familiar matter The Lego Batman Movie remains fresh but because the six authors copy the raw formula of previous film success, throw as many references as popular culture to the word game while hoping there is a target. The result is inconsistent. Occasionally there are clever jokes, although more mediocre material, clichés, nan predictable eg the phrase "it's a smash!" from Cole when his turn-destructive mecha destroys the enemy. The "quantity over quality" approach to comedic dresses negates the charm of The Lego Ninjago Movie, Visual still spoil the eye, including mecha design that tempts to spend deep to collect it. Unfortunately, the creativity of the entire team of directors and scriptwriters to address the characters and settings are composed of a stack of lego only limited to the basics like installing Garmadon's feet to the head of Master Wu (Jackie Chan). The rest, for the first time in its franchise, the lego-lego gleaming left wasted, limited to colourful ornaments. The wildest imagination actually appears when the original cat destroys the city as a result of laser beams. A funny and weird moment that rarely happens.

The portion of the drama still contains a message, this time around the identity and relationship of father and son. A condensed Star Wars reference to a child fighting against a father's crime involving a disconnected right hand, the dynamics of Lloyd-Garmadon reach the unique point of being so coerced together, putting aside the ego while reconnecting the bond between the two. But when Garmadon with all the confusion of duty as a father gives an interesting twist, Lloyd is not so difficult to steal the heart. Especially among the noisy mess of action, The Lego Ninjago Movie less time to take care of the complexity of the problem of the protagonist, But Lloyd was luckier than his fifth companion, where except for the cool forms of mecha, they looked similar to each other. Zane the robot is a quite prominent act, but talk personality, the fifth is difficult to distinguish, just perform at the centre of the adventure without doing anything significant. If The Lego Batman Movie is an alternative or parody version for Batman, The Lego Ninjago Movie is the same thing for ninja. So it should be until the film ends, and the ninja relies more heavily on mecha than his typical martial arts. Spinjitzu stance that involves the elements of each nature just a glance fill at the end of the duration without the impression.
